Hi All,
Finally picked up my hoist. I decided to go with a non clear floor due to wanting to lift the Defender to as close to 1.8m as possible. I just wouldnt be able to with a clear floor two poster.
It's actually a better fit than I first thought and can still get the other car in the shed.
Just need to plumb it all in. Wish me luck!

I hope Radum have sorted themselves out now. There was a recall on their 4.2t hoist a few years ago:
Radum Pty Ltd (http://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/radum-pty-ltd-two-post-vehicle-hoist'source=recalls)

They tried selling me one 'cheap' without mentioning that it was affected by a recall:

I was aware of the recall. I had dealings with the Brisbane branch when we lived there.
The hoists are worksafe certified and the issues addressed. I checked the manual and the electrical diagrams are there and it must be installed by an electrician. You need to send off the installation certificate to Radum for warrenty. And the hydraulics diagram shows burst limit valves.
So really hoping it's all ok.

Goodo Nino, I'll be looking for a 2 post hoist in the near future so I might follow you up in few months time & see how it's going.
Hopefully it's better than my Hero 4 poster.

Hi Scott,

When it's all installed I'll post up a review. I bought the hoist after doing a fair bit of research. It's not the best on the market that's for sure but where do you stop! I'm no longer in the trade so don't need a hoist that runs 8hrs a day, 6 days a week. And I didn't want to spend 5k plus. The Radum hoist cost $2600 which for the amount of use I think it will get is good value.
Anyway, time will tell. Hope it's good value and not a two grand lemon :(

Dumb question time :) What is wrong with the 4post hoist... I was hoping to chase one of them up oneday!

It seems the only realistically priced way to get a 240volt hoist of any type or description is a cheap chinese one. The older industrial units cost quite a bit to convert over from 3phase.

I had looked at a four poster. The plus side was that (the one I looked at) it was on wheels and therefore was mobile when not in use. You could park on it and when raised, park under it. This would have been good to store the camper.

The downside was initial cost. And I thought it would be a pain, and therefore I wouldn't use it as much if I had to constantly move a car, lower and remove a camper and then have to move it into the centre of my shed to lift the Defender.
Then once raised it is a pain (from experience) to have to raise axles to remove wheels. Yes you can buy a scissor lift that slides along the inner ramps but that is more expense.

I was offered a second hand 3 phase workshop hoist for $1750. But my sparky said it would cost about $1200 to install a phase converter or around a thousand to buy a new 240v/15amp motor/hydraulic unit. It would have cost more than buying a new hoist with warrenty.

Should be all fine , just run you fingers down the corners where the sliding blocks go , mine had weld splatter which would've worn out the blocks in no time , the other thing I notice is the left hand upright looks too close to the expansion joint in the concrete, how thick / mpa is the concrete?.

My hoist is a Molnar 2 Post clear floor 4.5T, with a Nissan Patrol V8 diesel on mine I actually have to lower it from full height to be comfortable to work under and I'm 1.8M tall, you must have a very tall defender, Regards Frank.

I have a Hero Hoist 4 poster and am happy with it.
Sure beats getting up and down on a creeper.

I thought they were even more expensive as they have the recesses for the turntables and ususally belly lift as well

I do have a set of old alignment ramps here that I use at the moment .. full length that pivot at the front. Brilliant, but they sure aren't a hoist :)

I recently bought a 2 post hoist for working on my race car. It's also nice to put the D3 in the air although my shed design means I cannot get it to full height :(.

I was so happy with mine that I have organised a sponsorship with them on my race car.....so, go have a look at HAPP hoists if you are in the market for one!!

Here's a pic of my Molnar (Australian made) hoist with my Disco onboard, it was approx 150mm from cross limit bar, Regards Frank.

So. Went to install to hoist. Bought the chemset bolts, made sure the epoxy was in date. Bought a 24mm drill and set to work.

Bearing in mind I had specifically said the shed slab was to be a minimum 200mm thick in the shed centre. I also supplied the hoist dimensions.

So drilled the first test hole at 10mm diameter and hit dirt at 110mm!! Hoist specs are min 130-150mm.

To say I'm not pleased is an understatement. And now the builder won't answer my calls.

Should be all good. I still haven't paid the final invoice as there is other work still outstanding. The builder is owed $15k.

On a good note. The electrican wired up the shed. Fitted lights and powerpoints. I can't fault his work. It is better than described.

You might need spreader plates to spread the load out a little. Alot of hoists say 100mm so I am sure you would be fine anyway

Thanks. I feel a bit better as that was the road I thought I would go down.

I think I should be fine. And I've looked up spreader plates. I saw a pair on line for $550. 750mm X 750mm.

My thoughts are that the builder can pay for those and reimburse me the cost of the extra concrete that wasn't poured.

If he/she charged you for the thicker concrete I would be getting a bigger refund!

Couple of things with your problem......

The 200mm section might be there but not quite in the middle of the shed.

The builder probably got a concreting mob in to do it and something may have gone through to the keeper with them.

Keep a bit more of an open mind and you may have a really good result with no grief.

Just about to get into a big shed extension myself, I am the 'builder', the concrete gets poured where I make the holes................. takes a lot of 'variables' out of the deal.

All the best, DL
