Advice needed

I have just purchased a new laptop. I am trying to tether it to my mobile for web access. I can see the mobile in the wifi connections so I click onto it and enter the password showing on the mobile. The laptop cannot connect. What am I doing wrong? The password on the mobile is faint if that is any help. Windows 10 and HTC mobile

WI-FI hotspot is turned on. It shows up on the computer but it will not connect

Tethering doesn't need a password, as you are tethered directly via usb cable. If you are wi-fi then you will need the password. Check that you are using the correct one, tether or wi-fi hotspot.

sorry. wifi connection. The computer is using wifi ok to the home wifi router but won't connect to phone hot spot

OK Problem solved. I was unaware that I had to "allow" the connection on the phone. :):):)
