On my 1988 Perentie, it is obvious that the Water Temperature Gauge (WTG) has been replaced at some-not relatively recently. It has a very nice clean bezel with no marks on it but the illumination colour (when the lights are one) is different than the other instruments. The illumination colour is standard white likely from a small incandescent bulb. The other instruments are all illuminated with a faint green light. I'm guessing that some ADF mechanic, at some point probably couldn't find a replacement WTG in their storage system and used a civilian Defender gauge but as I don't know what the Civilian Defenders had, it is only a guess. So, are the Perentie instruments all illuminated in green or did they change at some point and newer ones had white illumination? Are there any difference otherwise between the Perentie instruments and the civilian Defender instruments?

its light green.
if you cant get the light green died bulb, or the cover that suits you can use a green 12v led or a piece of green theatrcial light gel or even green celophane.
Ive used the bulb cover from a multi colour tourch prior to day to get one back to the right colour.
In a pinch dipping the bulb in a stron mix of green food dye or butchers dye will also work.

The military 110's all have VDO gauges which are different to the civilian 110's. My guess is that the green bulb cover was never installed on the new gauge when it was installed. You can buy them from any VDO dealer. 600856 is the part number I think but have a look at the VDO site.

G'day All,
Just came across this thread.
Being involved in the Electronics Industry and problem sourcing different colored bulbs we have used with great success the following paint to coat the bulbs:
TAMIYA COLOR Acrylic Paint in CLEAR. Available from hobby shops for painting models. Just dip the bulbs in it.
(I have used it to coat amber indicator lamps with great success as well. Clear lamps are much cheaper than the amber ones!.)
