Hi have had my D4 for about a year bought second hand, have notice now and again the message on panel by heater control that my passengers airbag is turned off. Further investigation via manual when looking for an answer to another problem I discovered on the passenger side of the dash is an ON OFF switch. Behind the cover ALAS no switch only a multi pin connector.
My question is
Does this mean my passenger is not protected by an air bag, should there be a switch or do I go to a dealer and ask the question.
cheers

When I picked up my D4 MY16 one of the first things the dealer said in the pre-delivery intro was "that air bag display always comes on when you start the car, don't worry about it", so I haven't.

Passenger Airbag is always armed - in Aust we do not have the option of switching the passenger off.

Hi Rodg, do you see it when the engine is running or just when starting? All warning lights should light during startup to alert you to the failure of the globe. They shouldn't display once the engine has been running for a few seconds. If so, take it to a dealer for investigation.

I seem to recall that this came up in a previous thread and that the reason was that in other locations you are allowed to have baby seats/capsules in the front seat whereas we must have them in the rear. An air bag going off would cause problems for a capsule/seat and that's why it is not able to be turned off. Doesn't allow for someone putting a capsule in the front even if it's illegal though.

I would get it checked at a dealer to be safe. Chances are all is ok, but worth the check.
When I worked at a VW dealership, we had one that I can recall come through with a switch that was missed in the pre delivery and was subsequently taken out.

Its normal to see the passenger airbag warning every start. Its the test sequence on start up.
IF you could switch it off the light would stay engaged after start up to warn the airbag is switched off.

Rodg, is it on start up or when your driving?
