Interior door pillar trim, am I missing it? (330TDI)

Something just seems missing, as per the photo ....what went/goes into the bolt holes (highlighted)?

Plastic trim which covers that section, a handle or this it just how it is?

I've searched google imagines and cannot find a photo to show this trim/section to see what I'm missing....

Photos or part numbers helpful, or solutions/ideas.

Looked the same on my old Defender too. I always figured the holes were somehow needed during the assembly process.
