Following my return from overseas I need to get a pink slip (annual roadworthiness in NSW for those from other states) before Christmas for my 2a.

I knew it needed a new muffler, new parking lamp lens, and brake light switch, all of which I had. I started off doing a normal service, looking for problems as I go. The first major problem found was a broken centre bolt in the LH front spring. I pulled the spring off, disassembled it, cleaned, greased and painted the leaves and made a new centre bolt and reassembled it with new bushes. Then I found the circlip was missing on the handbrake relay pivot. Seems the reason for this was the bracket holding the pivot was bent so that pulling on the brake tended to force the bell crank against the circlip. So I had to pull it off and straighten and reinforce the bracket, and find a new circlip (trip to next door neighbour 4km away - found the four wheeler had a flat battery due to not being used for a month so had to take the County).
Got all this done, now all I have to do is to finish the service (just need to check levels in the gearbox, transfer case and rear diff, adjust rear brakes), put the front wheels back on, tighten the shckle bolts, replace the seat box panel I removed to get at the handbrake - and find out why the number plate light doen't work.
Maybe these annual checks do have a purpose?
