Yes, unfortunately, youthful agression, a belly full of beer plus people who think shortfused and mob rule is the way of life lead to problems like this that sadly innocent people get hurt.
Hope we don't end up with long term problems like the UK.

I for one am getting sick of the media painting it as purely racial or religious.

i dont think it mattered oneiota to the locals what breed the outsiders were, they just wanted the gangs and the standover tatics done away with.

The tension there must be pretty heavy for a mob of aussies to turn up in those numbers in the first place much less get carried away like that.

Sure the crowd got full of booze and bad manners and turned very ugly when agitated by those with an agenda.

BUT imho that is a lack of leadership and due care being shown by the authorities, local, state and federal. Those pubs should have been closed soon as it became obvious there was an escalation in tensions. It was a planned event, if the authorities didnt know it was happening then they werent doing their jobs.

my heart goes out to those who are caught up in the middle of this lot and have to suffer losses from rioting, you can bet your bottom dollar the insurance compnies arent paying up as it is a civil disturbance.

from my point of view I simply dont understand how the police can let a convoy of 30 or 40 vehicles run riot through several suburbs and not have the power to impound the lot. If they dont have enough police the army should have been there on the streets the second night.

It is terrorism using roving gangs and iron bars.

The authorities have an awful lot to answer for in this lot IMHO and the poor old coppers and ambos on the front line have been left holding the bag again.

simply not good enough imho.

Fully agree, no time for this c$@p!

It should be stopped swiftly and decisively. Rubber bullets, teargas, baton charge and confiscate all vehicles and arrest evereyone, end of story. Nip it in the bud and show them this is not on, time for the authorities to get tough. If the rioters want to waive their manners and decency, the cops and army should exercise their right to restore order. I pay taxes and expect the "forces" to protect me and assure a safe environment for my family. Racism? Economics? Whatever, get over it and get a job and contribute to society like the rest of us!!! I feel better now
Louis
ps. buy a landy and go bush, all tensions gone

I do not condone what happened but I can understand it.
The reasons given are that groups of lebanese come to the beach at Cronulla and harass women in bikinis etc for not conforming with their Islamic dress standards!!! Another comment was that the Lebanese would take over the rock pool and not allow any non veiled women etc to swim while their veiled women swam. segregation of pools is normal in the Islamic World.
Now try getting a cop to manage/arbitrate a conflict like that. ie convince the Lebanese that the pool is not to be segregated for example Yeah Right!!!! Apparently the Lebanese beat up the lifesavers 2 weeks ago because the lifesaver told them to be careful because they couldn't swim (probably in a smartarse way) . That was the published trigger of the "reclaim the beach"
Another example of Lebanese specific behaviour that bugs me personally a bit is the "Rocks Cruise" . I was at the Rocks on saturday night. At midnight when one wants to go home, the Rocks of Sydney is COMPLETELY gridlocked by hundreds and I mean hundreds of Lebanese cruisers in their old BMWs etc. It is a great old chat show with guys chatting each other etc, and of course no Anglos in the way . BUT I wouldn't like to have an altercation with one, say if he cut you off, or bumped you. They would be over you in hundreds.
Now the cops could sort this out easily by just setting up a roadworthy station under the bridge , but do they?
Well one thing is for sure now. there will be more cop presence at Cronulla and maybe they will be more sensitive to behavioural problems .
By the way it was not just WASPS at Cronulla . There was a strong Pacific Islander support group!!!!!

Guys,

This is a terrible situation but it goes a long way back and doesn,t just invole immigrants.

I am an "old" Cronulla boy and this sort of thing has been going on for years. In 1966 a guy called "Bobby Brown" who would have been a world champion surfer (better than Midget Farrely and Nat Young) was killed in a bar fight at Cronulla Hotel. He was stab by a "rocker". Fights between surfies and rockers were common then.
In later years tension between surfers and "billies" or Bankstowners boiled as train loads of these guys arrived every weekend.
I think, as our multi-cultured society grows these things will sometimes boil over as various groups try to protect their rights or what they see as thier heritage. This does not mean that it is right it seems bound to happen as soiety change. It may take a generation or two to breed out this intolerance.

Let's all hope it is over quickly and is handled well by the police and government bodies.

In the mean time, I am glad I live in Queensland.

OK, my turn to get on the sop box.

Race, colour, religion, sex, etc. I don't care about. The basic problem is that people who ever they are are NOT respecting the law. If you are in another country that has severe dress codes for women, you have to obey the laws or suffer the consequences enforced by the law enforcement agencies. In some Islamic countries the law is strict. Aboriginal law is also strict. There are some Islamic people who need this harsh strict disipline, while others do not.
so why are the laws not enforced here??

I remember years ago when I was a kid, if you did something wrong, you would get a kick up the backside, if more serious, the coppers would just give you a hiding. Now because of all the laws you are not allowed to do anything like that. A women was had up a while ago for slapping her boy on the back of the legs in a supermarket, like this kid was asking for it from what I am told. What is that teaching the young kids??? If you do something wrong (child or adult) and there is no punishment, well you do it again.

Just heard on the radio now that some people are targeting the farmers because they grow pigs in large numbers, and they are talking about the "rights of pigs" 8O 8O.

Stop the world I want to get off!!

It amazes me how people, most of which are grown men and women can still think violence solves problems. Matt

My family and I left Eastern Burbs of Sydney a couple of years ago, never to go back! We would have liked to stay another year or so but my employer wanted me to move to the western burbs, no way! :x
This nonsense is unAustralian in every way. While we accomodate multiculturalism in every form, we have neglected Oz culture. Thank Hawke and Keating for that!
I will be disappointed if the authorities simply allow the shenanigans to peter out along with all the destruction and damage. It starts in our schools. All schooling should be in English, the Queens style, not the American one  with the anthem and patriotism championed https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
As for the riots and rampaging youth, the only way into their thick skulls is through their wallets, possessions and massive and unrelenting pursuit by the authorities.
For starters, instant confiscation of cars, phones, ghetto blasters and all possessions with them at the time only to be given back after aquittal by the courts or release by police.
Another thing, overseas experiance has shown that only massive response by authorities can contain the violence, if need be, the Army has entire Battalions of the finest riot squads and and is superb at road blocks etc.
The list could go on.
Draconian I know but this is my country and I want this sh*t stopped right now! Paris, LA and Berlin have taught us that you cannot predict these things and the only response is overwhelming clamp down by authorities.

The soap box is now vacant 8O

It's tribal on both sides.

What happened to civilisation or is that just a thin veneer to be scratched to reveal barbarity. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

As for the enforcement of law and order most of that in this country is focussed on individual wrong doers and not groups so the tactics will have to change. Civil unrest is a stranger here.

It will be controlled.

One thing about the US which has welcomed millions more people from more diverse ethnic backgrounds than we have is that it has done a much better job at making those people welcome and unifying them as Americans not just foreigners camping. We have much to learn from the US and much to learn from Europe for exactly different reasons. You don't have to be an @rse kisser to see which country and system is working best and suits our own aspirations and interests.

I'll abuse another country with the best of them but by crikey there's a long list of counties I'll abuse before I get round to the US.

Has anything decent come out of any other country in the last 100 years? Countries that needed the US to save them from dictatorships are disqualified, btw.

Are you serious ? Hmm, i wonder where all those minority group slums are - LA, NY, the south, Detroit etc, etc ! We sh@t all over the US as far multiculturalism goes.

The first fleet to this country included two native Americans.

In just over 200 years Australia has settled immigrants from all countries and some would say at the expense of the indigenous population.

Yet in that time we have not had a War of Independence nor a Civil War.

Lest we forget that.

Not perfect but capable of harmony given the right attitudes.

Oh absolutely. We get the clever refugees and immigrants. US is nowhere in the rankings of places refugees and immigrants want to end up. Just try giving a Green Card away in an african street. They don't want them. No sir. Kabul, it's an insult to offer them a visa to the US. They'd kill your sister if you even mention it.

And just look at the squillions of US citizens coming ashore in Australia in ricketty old fishing boats. Fleeing the racism, fleeing the abject poverty, desperate to get to all the other countries that are doing so well.

You can't turn on the TV news without seeing all those Americans diving in the water and swimming for Cuba. They're like lemmings. So near to a multicultural paradise yet so far.

The first thing I do when i wake up is look wistfully out my window and ask"Is this France?" only to find it was a wonderful dream and I must go through my day weighed down by the shame I feel for being under the yoke of Bush. I want so badly to be under the yoke of Chirac but that bloody elctorate that keeps voting in Johnny, theyre so thick.

I'm sorry - I must have hit the Alan Jones or Stan Zemanak website by mistake... I was after the Australian Landrover owner's website - you know, the special interest website where blokes and girls with an interest in quirky but addictive British off road automotive engineering get together.

Must say that we seem a whole lot more pleasant when we stick to what I thought the website was meant to be about....
