Hi all,

Besides total seizure, how hard should it be to rotate your cooling fan? My 93 RR fan makes one hellava noise and is quite stiff. I'm thinking it's too tight...

And on from that....What are the model ford fans are sometimes recommended that fit the Rangie… if I choose to go that way..?

Thanks,
Russell

NOT that tight and should not make a noise.
Instead of buying an old Falcon one, why not buy a new correct one from UK.
Are you a Vbelt car? I think so . It might be the tensioner making the noise.

Hello Mr Armbuster,

Yes 3 V belts and one flat multi rib thing. The noise is Fan noise, I think as a result of there not being enough slip in the viscus.

I have the Radiator out being re-cored so doing the belts, and looking/thinking about the Viscus coupling. I know there are strong arguments for and against the thermo fans, but I thought if I wasn't driving the MkIX spitfire prop out front I might get better mileage.

Fords seem to get along fine with the thermo's and I dont cross the mighty Rose River when in flood, so I figure I should be OK. New Ford twin fans and shroud can be had for $220.

And one tensioner has some sideways play...

regards,
Russell.

Sorry I thought you were on the XE viscous coupling wavelength not the EA-ED electric ..

If you want a new viscous which is MUCH quieter, you can get an ERR2266 which is off a 300TDi. It has the same LH thread as the v8 . You have to buy a new fan as well, but the fan has blades right from the centre and pumps more air while being much quieter. I was given one by Graeme Cooper to try out before he shifted location. It was not 100% on a diesel but my V8 does not increase temp in 40c in low range.

Falcon fans are look great and every now and again I am tempted and then I think Hot day 30 Amps, low range low revs flat battery. Or alternatively hot day traffic jam idling etc etc. Thats why Falcons have 120amp plus alternators.
