Hi all,
I will be taking my recently purchased and currently NSW registered Perentie to Regency next week.
I get the impression that the process is hit and miss at best, the design rule and conformity i can get my head around but are now wondering if i will cop a hard time due to the lack of compliance plate (i do have a land Rover letter of compliance).
Has anyone out there been through the process without an attached plate in SA and if there are any pitfalls could you please advise.

I was lucky. Mine was one of the first through and I had no issues.
Rumor has it that issues now are with tool mounts on bonnet and protruding bits on bullbar.
The guy who did mine was ex-RAAF so we had quite a discussion about all things Air Force.
Hopefully others will chime in with more experiences.

I did look at the ADR rules both State and National and are aware of the rules, i reckon we can get through somehow.
Did your unit have a compliance plate or did you have the letter of compliance.

Yeah, mine was all "normal". Got it in Qld then trucked it down to Adelaide. Good Luck with yours.
If it's any help, all I talked about when I went there was an "ID check" - chassis number and engine number check. They did the computer check, then checked the RAAF logbook, and all was good.
I NEVER mentioned anything about roadworthy or similar.

Well i didn't go too well.
Basically the number check found that:

No compliance plate...i did offer my letter of compliance
Bonnet tools and brackets to remove
Rop's not as ADR, which is my major worry as my seat belt mounts are attached
Rear lighting obscured, need to cut off all brackets and remove jerry can holders
Exhaust not exiting vehicle as ADR
Front bull bar lift points need to be cut off and rounded
I was lucky that my vehicle had an ignition switch as that would have been an item also.

I can fully appreciate the need for compliance and road safety but what i cant get my head around is the fact that i looked at a South Australian registered Perentie at a licenced motor vehicle dealer as a reference before i purchased my NSW one.

Please find a link to the licensed motor vehicle dealer who is selling a registered and apparently compliant Perentie......I dont know what to think about this.

Did they tell you how to correct these issues?
- The ROPS, I think it may be as simple as covering it with foam. There is discussion on the forum about this.
- Lift points - front, ADR requires the edges to be radiused 5mm. What I would do is get an exhaust place to bend up a nudge bar, weld some brackets on it, and bolt it to the lift points. Weld some tabs on the nudge bar and mount a light bar on it.
- Rear lights, move them further back under the jerry can holders. Isuzutoo-eh I think did that. The photo's and instructions are on the forum somewhere. I think they do conform to the ADRs but I'd have to get out my set square and tape measure to argue the point in court. Easier to move them.
- According to the ADRs, the exhaust exit is fine unless you have passengers. For simplicity, I'd just get an exhaust place to make you one that exits the rear. Put the original back on when that wears out maybe.
- bonnet tools, just remove them to get it through rego. There is a solution for this problem being thought out. When you read the ADR covering this, those who oppose the tools fail to understand the meaning of the word "likely".

I recall a couple of years back when I asked them about buying a non-compliance plate perentie, the reply I got from the chief there was enough to put me off buying one without the compliance plate. I can't recall the reply I got, but it looked like a can of worms, and I thought at the time, I would be better off buying one with a compliance plate.

After a bit of searching back through old computers and emails.......MR619 is the form that you need to apply for the exemption of an identification plate.

The compliance plate is affixed by the manufacturer. It is to advise the vehille has been assessed and complies to the ADRs it was required to comply to at the time of manufacture. The model stated on the compliance plate is "4x4 Military". It is not a 110. A letter from the manufacturer stating it complies with the ADRs it was required to comply to at the time of manufacture is a valid replacement for a missing compliance plate. The SA registration authorities refusal to accept this is unlawful.
Unfortunately, when an authority gets it wrong, you have to take it further with a higher authority.
Or you could work to get it through with minimal impact.

deansyorath now has a few choices. Hack into the Perentie as his post suggests, think outside the box in order get it through with minimal impact, or sell it and buy a Perentie already registered in SA.
