View Full Version : New EGR valve installed - but a bit weird.

Got my car back today after 36 hours at Barbagallo Land Rover where they installed a new EGR valve (under warranty, thankfully - $1900.)
Apparently the valve had thrown up an error message and when they removed it (a difficult job, requiring removal of the manifold and various other bits and pieces) the valve was found to be sticking.
Strangely, I hadn't noticed any difference in the engine note, the way it drove, or anything else.
Anyhoo, she's all done, primed, pristine and primped, ready for a new owner, while I look for my next LR, a white 2015/16 D4 SE or HSE with almond interior, Summit bar, lights, roof rack, 18s, rear ladder, drawers etc.

Rare as rocking horse doo-doos, I suspect.

Hmmm, not many new D4's available..let alone with all the fruit! Might have to explore RRS options me thinks.....!

I've gone off the new-shape Sport Chris, and the TDV6 is the poverty-pack without a transfer case as far as I know...and nobody makes bull bars for them I believe. For that kind of cash you can drive away in a near-new D4 HSE, or a one year old SE with all the fruit added.

That's what I'm hanging out for anyway:-)

I've had an offer for my L322, haven't accepted it yet as I'm trying to juggle moving it on with finding a replacement. It's a bit like trying to herd cats!

I've gone off the new-shape SportSo not keen on the D5 shape either or just waiting a couple of years for bugs to be sorted?

Graeme, not speaking for Greg but for me it probably depends on whether things like bull bars, dual batteries, snorkels and long range tanks will become available quickly for the D5. That is where the current D4 has an advantage over the RR or RRS. If you could get all of the accessories a new shape RRS would be attractive to me and I could pass the aging D4 onto my son!

I suspect it'll take a long long time for ARB and others to engineer all the add-ons for the D5...

Does the 4.4 have a single EGR?

Yes, the 4.4 TDV8 has a single EGR valve mounted in the V.

if it was sticking, a good drink of inlet cleaner would have sorted it. In this instance it was covered under warranty but as info for future.... Dealers love to replace EGR valves - the mix of soot and oil (from crank breather) creates a sticky mess. The other side of my garage houses a VAG diesel, famous for "failed" EGR valves. Ours through the error and when I pulled it out it was sticking, which cleaning the gunk out solved. Now recieved a dose of inlet cleaner each service.

Thanks Harlie, I'll definitely be trying that on the new D4 if it ever arises...

Do it just before the service, then change out the oil!

Or Greg, get the EGR closed off via Tune and you won't have a worry ever!
