I have just had a smartkey for my D4 stop working. My spare was 450km away at the time. Installed a new battery just in case that was the problem. Managed to start the vehicle eventually holding the key under the steering wheel but it took about 30 attempts on the start button before the remote was recognised.

Where is the best place to source a new remote for a D4? Does the programming of a new remote need to be done by the dealer? Can the remotes be repaired?

Have you checked the voltage of the new battery?

Great advice to check the "new" battery voltage, the first new replacement I bought for mine lasted 4 days then failed. The next one I bought I checked the voltage on before installing, all good, been 18 months now.

There have been previous threads about this and you can source them other than at a dealer and program them with Nanocom etc. Definitely cheaper than through a dealer. Worth a search. :)

This one worked for me FOR LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT CENTRAL LOCKING SMART KEY FOB 434mhz | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191599714582?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) on a 2011 D4.

Use a Nanocom or IID to program, simple.

Just checked the new battery and voltage was only at 2v. Have used another new battery and now have 2 working remotes again.
Normally there is a warning on the dash regarding low remote battery but did not get it this time. After replacing the battery and it still not working I assumed that the remote was stuffed. Now happy that I didn't have to replace the smart key.
