I have done a search and read many thready but non seemed clear enough for me.
I currently have 16*6 ROH rims running from a perentie on the s2a 88. They currently run 235/85/16 rubber with tubes with no rubbing issues etc.
I was wanting to run something a little wider like 265/75/16, I'm guessing this means new rims.
What offsets would i be looking for so i don't rub on chassis?
Any other steel rims just straight swap in (discovery 1?)?
Any other ideas?
P.S sorry to annoy the purists out there.

Don't go wider, go taller.

While Disco 1 wheels will fit, they will limit the turning circle. The other issue, of course, is that almost all Series Landrovers have no power steering!
In my humble opinion, tyres wider than 7.50 are of doubtful use, although it needs to be noted that at least some Series Landrovers specified 9.00x15 tyres for use in sand.

Have a close read of this link and pay particular attention to handling problems if the wrong offset/inset is used. He also lists tolerances, which is essential when choosing new rims.

So i have read below from (thread (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/31014-series-rims-defender-post446971.html#post446971))
JD was correct the above information is not accurate, there are lots of different Series rims and some are UK manufactured and others Australian manufactured although often with the same part number.
However one question that has to be considered is that none of the series and early defender rims are designed for tubeless tyres. The ones for tubless tyres have a ridge running circumfrentially around the rim just inside where the bead sits. If you dont have the safety rims you should run tubes.
Now back the the Series rims. (The part number is usually stamped on flat between the wheel studs)
* the 1948 rims are 4 1/2" wide, no branding on the flats & valve stem hole in the slot.
* 231601 - 5" wide, '49 - series 3 88" rims 49-53 UK manuf. only 53 on UK & Aust manuf.
* 272309 - 5 1/2" wide, 28/16" offset, '58 - series 3 109" rims, 7.50 tyres, UK or Aust manuf.
* 569690 - 5 1/2" wide, 21/16" offset, series 2a - series 3 109" rims UK manuf. only, 7.50 tyres (often called English rims)
* 526753 - 15" rim for 8.20 - 9.00 tyres UK manuf. US market.
* 543384 - 6 1/2" wide, no offset UK manuf. SIIA Forward Control 9.00 tyres
* 569204 - 6 1/2" wide, 13/16 offset UK Manuf. One Ton Land Rover 9.00tyres
* 569203 - 6 1/2" wide, aprox 3/4" offset UK manuf. SIIB Forward Control 9.00 tyres
* NRC7578PM - 5 1/2" wide, Unknown offset, series 3/stage 1/County, UK and Aust Manuf. 7.50 tyres
Only the very late series 3/Stage 1 rims (AYG-8108) had the raised ring between the studs. Whether it was 6.0" I am unaware.
Hope this helps :)

So offset appears to be all over the place from 0mm to 46mm.
So maybe I should rephrase the question.
What are people running on their old series in the 7 -7.5" range, with no major dramas with stock steering?

We run on the standard rims the same tyres on the defender and the series III. Brigdestone dessert Dullers 750x16. they are interchangeable and readily available. Have had no problems with them.

My S1, which has a narrower track than a S2, came with a set of disco wheels.
I think Campbell's Bluebird had a better turning circle.

Maybe i should get a few different rim and tyre sizes on loan and test them and see how much difference it makes in turning. All scientific like ;)
Some original 15*5" series,
My current perenti 16*6
Some disco 1 16*7
And some used tyres at the same profile size as i want.
Use chalk or something to draw the circle.
As the tyre shops in my area of SA just shrug.
