I chose one of the hottest days of the year down here to have a quick look at Darwin. I've been fiddling with the carby trying to put off having to take it to bits and put a kit through it and was having increasing trouble getting the starter motor to turn for any length of time so I thought I'd get it off and give it a clean. Am I right in thinking that there are only two bolts holding it on ? top left and bottom right (sharing with the earth strap). I couldn't see/feel any others. Top left was missing. Would this make it floppy doppy enough to make it not spin very well?

Yep. Thems the 2 bolts. U need both bolts so it works properly. It wont be engaging properly. Top bolt is a PITA to get in and out. If u find the need to replace the starter then try a high torque starter as they are smaller and easier to fit. Cheers Rod

P.S You could contact this mob http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-Torana-LC-UC-6cyl-Starter-Motor-NEW-Hi-Torque-/400496399003 This one is not for a race car engine and is a little more economical at $119.95. If you scroll down their page it looks like this starter motor covers nearly all of the red six cylinder motors . You might want to confirm it includes the 202 ci motor if you need it. Their site mentions the following ...

Perhaps the missing out of the 202 motor from HD to WB list was a mistake because the 202 is mentioned in their Torana list. Better safe than sorry though and ask them to confirm

I found a firm that sells the holding bolts for the starter motor - i was pleased with the cost but then they wanted 3 times the cost to mail it, which didn't please me so much. So i thought I would pop the bolt off the lower part and take it into the nuts and bolts shop - fantastic shop where they can tell what you want before you take it out of your pocket (almost) and are quite happy to sell you one only. But - the lower fixing is a threaded stud with a nut on it. Bugger. So i went ahead and paid the postage. I'm hoping the extra bolt will make things work better - but i reckon I'll end up having to pull the starter motor off.

The bolts u need should be 3/8 unc x about 1 1/2" long. They should both be bolts not stud and nuts.
