If, and I say IF, I was to be looking at buying an 85 model V8 County station wagon what gearbox would I expect to find behind the motor?
LT95 or LT85 or LT77???
Also did all county's have power steering?
Interior wise did they all have door trims etc?
Are parts like ARB bullbars, Kaymar spare wheel carriers, sill tanks, maxi drive rear axles etc from a 95 Defender interchangable with an 85 county?
Did county's have the batteries under the passenger seat?

Afternoon sir,
CJ's 84 V8 county came with:
5 speed box (LT77?)
Power steering.
Door trims (and wind up windows  )
Battery under the seat.
The rest...I won't venture a guess.

Think the 5 speed was the Santanna Box behind the V8.

LT95 is the 4 speed, LT85 is the 5 speed.

I think the LT85 only came behind the 4BD1.
Are you selling the rangie?

I've driven a V8 with the LT85, so not the case.

I saw in a recent LRO international County special report thingo that after 1985 the V8's came with a LT85 box but wasn't sure if this was the case in Australia.
I'm thinking of buying an old County to restore and improve a little. (4.6 V8 with EFI and rear discs)
I want the LT85 box in it.
I want to swap some of the bits over from the Defender.

Well the one I looked at the other day would be ok to sacrifice to the gas axe.
IT WAS TRASHED!
After reading about LRH's efforts recently I am tempted to go the 100 inch option.

If it did not have those two or the santana box then it had the LT77 5 speed from the 90 diesels and range rover. Same as the 200 TDI 110 box but with a shorter bell houseing and imput shaft.; But still came with the layshaft problems throwen in for free https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Righto thanks guys.
So now we know the Late 85 110 V8 came with a LT85 box.
What about the rest of the stuff? Will Defender bits and bobs fit onto a county?
I'm assuming the chassis is very similar if not exactly the same. Bullbar should fit. Sill tanks should fit. Or not?
What about the rear sal diff. Essentially the same unit as a 95 Fender but with drum brakes? Same splines?

Mine was a 4-spd, LT-95, which I believe is a stronger unit(?).
Pretty sure the chassis is virtually identical. You can get disc brake conversions for the rear, or maybe swap for a later axle.

Later disc-brake diff is no problem, I was told that the booster needed to be changed. Not so, I'm still running the original County booster with a 94 Defender diff.
Re the Santana, parts are still readily available ex UK and at a considerable saving to the same parts supplied in Aust. I have just finished mine with a new mainshaft, new bearings, seals etc. If you need any assistance with part numbers for the box just let me know.

Land Rover are really lazy and will not change anything unless they have to
The 100 is the same as the first one that came out. Just differant engines and gearboxes. But they will all fit The have changed the electrics over the years. More adding to it than anything else
They made no differance to the sill tanks or any of that stuff. The only differance was with the interior and brakes (abs , traction control)
To give you an example. A 2003 dash (new style center consol) will fit easy into a 1983 110.

I have a 98 model landrover bullbar (ARB) fitted to my 85 county.
One of the things they did to later, 87 on 110's was to move the rear seat forward and make it into a split arrangement instead of the park bench in the back of the earlier ones.

Maxidrive axles/drive members interchanging "might" be an issue. My last County was an 86 V8 with the LT85, and when I ordered maxidrive drive members, they didn't fit. The problem was that I was supplied with Defender drive members, which do not "stick out" as far as County drive members. I swapped them for the correct maxidrive part made for the County, and all was ok.
