I picked up a set of genuine LR cross bars (VPLAR001) for my D4 today on Ebay.

They are missing one of the plastic covers.

One end looks like this:

All the others have the plastic cover:

My questions are:

Is this available as a spare part? The seller said that he would try to purchase this from a dealer, but I'm not sure it will be that easy.
Will the bar function fine without the plastic cover? Is it only an aesthetic issue?

Don't know whether it's available as a spare part but if you have a look at one of the other three ends you'll see whether it's cosmetic. I have a set but haven't had them on for a long while. they're in the shed which doesn't have a light or I'd have a look for you. I think it is just a cover though it would stop someone tampering with the exposed area. Be aware that the bars fit in a particular direction and IIRC they are specific front and rear. It tells you on the bar from memory. Spent a frustrating 10 minutes trying to move one before I noticed that. :p:p:p

Obviously make sure you get keys but they can be sourced from Thule from memory by using the number on the lock.
