I took our DS for a drive up a reasonably rough track in the bush that we like doing in the D1 and D4 and then about 15km on a very corrugated gravel road that hasn't been graded since before last winter.

I was very pleasantly surprised as to how well it handled it all. It was very quiet, comfortable and beautifully damped. It was perfect on the corrugations. If I didn't have a D4 I would have said it was the best car I have ever driven on these types of roads, and I have driven plenty. I have the adaptive dynamics option which has continuously adjustable shock absorbers that are adjusted 1000 times per second. Its getting nicely freed up now after a few thousand km.

Then I got back in the D4!! Brilliant and so comfortable and quiet. The DS, good as it is, is no comparison with the D4!

I tried one steep pile of gravel that we like to drive over which tests the ramp over clearance. Unfortunately the DS didn't make it and sat on the DPF and sills. I had to back down again for the first time ever. We have done it in D1's, the D4, Patrols and Cruisers over the years without grounding but I didn't really want to damage my brand new DS any further by continuing over the hill.

I'm surprised at no mention yet of CVDs on the D5 as I find my L322's very good on bad roads.

Yes, there doesn't appear to be adaptive dynamics either included or as an option on the D5.
