View Full Version : Fund raising for AULRO

V8Ian
30th January 2017, 09:19 AM
On Saturday, after Inc, Pedro, Pop and the Suzuki driver left, Steve and I realised we had a mutual desire to raise funds for AULRO.
My preferred method is to hold a Trivia night. I think Bald Hills would be a reasonably central location and I am prepared to act as quiz master.
How many people could be interested?
Open to all suggestions re venue, date etc..

If Inc doesn't need the dosh we could direct the profit to 'Ian's retirement fund'.

Very good idea Ian, should be a hilarious and entertaining event......and may I suggest ,as a venue, The Longley International.

I did consider that pub Dave, but it's a bit far for we mere workers to travel on a weekend. Of course, plenty of time for retirees to wander north. ;)

I am astonished by your knowledge Ian. A first class quizz master you are.......

Not many South Islanders know of which we are referring .......perhaps not even J.C.

we just need one IT literate at each site...

surely that isn't tooo big an ask..

skype and a group (video maybe) conversation isn't pushing too many limits..

unfortunately those advances also include access to something called the Internet,,
which is VERY good at trivia games,,
in fact the Internet is so good, they actually ban it from trivia nights held in public places like Pubs. ;)

Good point - it's wrecked the trivia nights I used to go to. Even though it's banned, most still sneak a peak at their phone.

If there were groups in each area, we could all keep an eye on everyone else in the local 'team'.

This all sounds quite interesting... How the 'interstate' bit is going to work I don't know, but I'd be in for a SA meet up, and would help where I could.. I'm Apple literate, but not a Microsoft fan.... Re locations over here, it would have to be in the hills somewhere west of Adelaide.. That makes it in reach of the northerners, the southerners and the City slickers... Birdwood Lobethal area...? Maybe if the 'local' moderators within each area 'police' it... Long overdue an SA catch up!! :)

Mate, I can pull the Q & A bit off, the national hook up is well beyond me though. :o

To reassure the less studious than Toxic Avenger or LionelG, there will be a number of different categories, with the emphasis on general knowledge and common sense rather than tertiary qualifications.

I live in Canberra now but I will make sure that I am in Melbourne that weekend to bat for the Mexicans. Perhaps the mods could umpire to ensure no cheating.

I'd really hope we can rely on each others integrity, we won't be playing for sheep stations.

Are people going to be excited about a national meet'

YES

Will people come;

YES

Will people miss out;

YES

Will people have fun;

YES

Will people have a long way to travel;

YES

Is it worth it:

YES

Will I go;

Hell Yeah

Not one negitive comment so far, anyone else want to say anything in the negitive:confused:

Maybe start a separate thread.......that would get things rolling

Just thinking

Defender Day attracts 50 cars
Winter wombat gets a good turn out
D3/D4 weekend goes alright
Cross border gathering had a couple of good years
There is an annual ANZAC Day gig
Probably other regular events

Maybe 2018 or 2019all the above events get rolled into one....

Saich was telling us of his power woes (I think he's sourcing from SA ;) ), I don't think he'd deal with just any old salesman, he'd insist on a Land Rover tragic, hire consultant. :D

back in pommy land in the early 80's there were a lot of groups opposed to Thatcher funded by various left wing local authorities. My favourite was "Islington Gay Window Cleaners Against The Cuts". Maybe we should form a sub division of AULRO - I'll throw it out to you all as to what we would be against.
Cheers,
