Any stereo wizards out there ? Have been modifying the stereo in the D2, I have a Kenwood head unit (basic) Focal front speakers and tweeters, and Kickers in the rear doors with an underseat sub under the passenger seat.

I was at a breakers yard over the weekend, and whilst looking at a D1, it had some custom mountings either side of the back door with some Infinity reference 6 x 9 speakers. $20 for the pair, had to get them. They get a great review.

Last night I wired them up in series to the 2nd row speakers and rested them on the 3rd row seats. To me it sounds a lot better, deeper, sound throughout the car as opposed to being produced all from the front half of the car.

Reading up on it today, it is not usually recommended to wire up two sets together as it can affect sound quality when the rear speakers are only helping 'filling' the back of the car with the fronts being critical, but I think this really works. I know I will have some fun getting wire to the rear from the doors, but can be done, and when mounted higher up I think will the additional sound will make a big difference. It is an awful lot of the back of the vehicle to cover for two door speakers on their own, however powerful.

Maybe I need an amp that can split the 3 sets and the sub ?

Has anyone done anything similar or know how to get the best quality sound out of a Disco that they recommend ? Cheers. Matt

When I took the 3rd row seats out of my green one, I enlarged the seatbelt hole in the D pillar and mounted speakers there, just like the D1's, sounded pretty good I reckon.

The 6 x 9's fit below the seatbelt hole sitting sideways, I haven't finished modifying the mounts till I decide to go ahead with it, but it creates 'a tunnel of sound' now if that makes sense. I don't have the know how whether best to link them to the rear speakers or if I need to get an amp ?
