FYI..
Our friends at Telstra seem to have another problem....
Telstra outage across Australia after Sydney fire - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-02-02/telstra-outage-across-australia-after-sydney-fire/8235624)

Why do so many people have such a big sook about this when it happens? Yes it's inconvenient for a bit, but the responses from some just baffles me.

fire took out the power on lvl2.
on lvl2 is a ITP which handles mobile traffic and network routers
mobile traffic was offloaded to the other ITP which is in kent st.
the offload was not pretty.

Hi Tim,
I can't answer this on behalf of all of the sooks, but I can on behalf of myself!
Telstra charge a premium for their network, because they say "We have the best network, with the best coverage". Fair enough.
But when they have a network outage, they basically "oops - Sorry about that old chap."
My Telstra home phone has failed 4 times in the last month. I go without a home phone for 24-48 hours at a time. It's not the end of the world, but my internet goes through my phone line.. There is NO nbn where I live, we aren't even on the road map yet. What if I was a pensioner and had a medical emergency?
I'm in IT - and for all cricital systems I have backup systems. Depending on the type of system, I even use multiple providers with multiple connection types (fibre and wireless). I would have thought that Telstra would also.
So when Telstra say "We had an outage, bad luck" I find it very hard to stomach because I am paying a premium price for a premium service... That is no longer (in my eyes) a premium service..
The general Telstra attitude seems to be "if you don't like it then go somewhere else".. And that's the problem - there isn't a better service, so we just have to cop it on the chin?
Anyway - carry on everybody.. :D
Cheers,
The Grey Ghost

As a tech there for 34 years I can understand the frustration when things go wrong. Mostly it is unforeseeable. How many on here have electronic faults in their vehicles.and can't find the answer. Same thing...technology is too smart and when things go wrong they do so in a big way.

Hi Grey Ghost,
I get where you're coming from, multiple outages a month is certainly something I would complain about! What gets me is the general social media bleaters carrying on when their phone doesn't work for a few hours once in a blue moon.
I have Telstra at home and it's very good, (their modems are crap though). Telstra business on the other hand.... don't get me started :angrylock:

Tim, wasn't posted as a "sook" more of a public announcement - I know it had been adversely impacting a lot of people around the country in the business that I worked for and many didn't know why.
I thought it might be useful information for some. ;)

but we don't pay much for AULRO,and they do their utmost to keep it going...:)
Unlike Telstra:(
Back on topic, that outage was a bit weird.I couldn't send or receive mobile calls, but landline calls were no worries.
One of the boys has a phone same brand, newer model,he could ring anyone, and was standing next to me,but couldn't get through to my mobile.

I thought it was great - my phone stopped ringing for 2 hours. :D
My Boss figured out that data hadn't been effected so he face timed me to chat just to suck all the fun out of the peace and quiet. :D

People have become too reliant on telecommunications. Imagine the panic that set in for of all those who text whilst driving, they would actually have to do the task of driving and not knowing what their fellow texters are doing must have been a real agonising time, not knowing when the friends were wiping their bums etc . Most people could do without the service for the time of outages lasted and might have seen that there is more to life than their mobile phones, we used to do it be them.

I was talking to a workmate yesterday who is running a job with contractors and it wasn't a happy experience for him during the outage.

The lithe didn't effect my team.....but sometimes I think it's easier for people (business work) to call someone rather than nut the job out themselves. When companies say but it effected our business, maybe a percentage but I reckon a good number it effects them because they have become too reliant on communication instead of just getting in with the job.

I think we all need to take a step back with the current way of life, stop moaning and blaming someone when it goes wrong, and look at what's going on.. Things are advancing too quickly, not everyone can keep up.. There are more and more power outages, phone outages, droughts, wars, freak weather events, and general unrest etc etc than there has ever been.. I don't dwell on the gloom, but have noticed things are changing for the worst world wide over the past 10+ yrs.., and think its about time we all wised up and got back to basics! Have stock of water, have a well prepared property for fire, have the ability to be self suficient, and dont rely on all the 'stuff' we take for granted. It doesn't cost a huge amount to setup... Two rain water tanks, a Genset and a fire pump. Coms we can do without if we are not reliant on it or governed by it.. Just my thoughts! :)

Could be true that.
My mate had problems because our site is large with several entrances and lots of kids running around unpredictably, so we have to be very fussy about where outside vehicles go for safety reasons. Can't have tradies running down kids. Also the tradies would never find the right place in the new building without guidance.

Some can't Fart unless their supervisor instructed them how to do it.

The Grey Ghost
If you are unlucky enough to be wearing a Medi Alert(or some other brand of on-body "call for assistance") telstra already know and you are always the first reconnected,( and in the case of NBN, even just connected.)
so they tell us.
