View Full Version : Voltage regular for instrument panel

I have three series 2 instrument panels and one series 3 panel and not one seems to have the 10v regulator in line with the gauges. Is this right?
I'm wiring up the 200tdi into the S2A with a new speedo and a new combo gauge and am unsure if I require the inline 10v stabiliser/regulator. On the series 3 the wires run straight into the big loom, and no behind panel regulator is evident.
I'm using the disco 1 alt, and I believe the regulator in inbuilt. I guess this would negate the need for a regulator on the loom?
Does this make sense to anyone?

The 10 volt reg is different to the reg in the alternator. It is used to supply 10 volts to the instruments. Your gauges will probably read wrong if it's not there. Others will know more than me.

Series 2a from 1967 had the 10v regulator for the gauges on the bulkhead just behinf the instrument cluster. On Series 3 it is attached to the back of the speedo from memory.

Pre 1967 the different fuel gauge did not need one, and there was no temperature gauge.

Post Series, the regulator is incorporated in the gauges so no regulator is needed. (I don't know about the Rangerover!)

Thanks John,
I just followed the wires on the S3 loom and the wire to the stabiliser is quite long and I wondered if it went to the engine side bulkhead........ Shame I didn't take it off the donor before I sold it on.
