I have a mate who works in a large sheet metal manufacturing company who is going to make me up some chequerplate gear for my Fender. Consisting of some Black anodised wingtop protectors with the Landrover emblem machined into them as well as a wind deflector of the same stuff with DEFENDER machined into the face, which will appear in silver.I'm gonna do it anyway, but was wondering about the copyright issue using the emblem etc, as we see in stickers , shirts and such, is it an issue? These will be a one off, but if this guy wanted to make more and distribute, say, via this site, is it a big deal or not?

Not a lawyer but here's my view.

The words only are fine. But, once you start making bits with the logo embossed / engraved on them you are indicating that these are LandRover Genuine parts. That could be the issue. Badges, stickers and stuff are probably OK.

Technically LR would have copyright on the name and emblem worldwide. It is unlikely that they would take any legal action if you own a LR and are just adding bits or collecting memorobillia. Would not be in their interest. However if you were promoting and selling items for a profit as a business they probablly would not like it. Items like club merchandise would not be their target as it is promoting their brand. Their are some countries where copy right law does not exist such as Indonesia so you could always say you got them there. I do not blame them for protecting their product, however unless you are in it for commercial purposes I would say you are fairly safe. Lots of small volume merchandisers / stall holders would be out of business if they prosecuted small operators.
