He took the halfback position to a new level. The front row forwards who have gone before him, are now under control.

Two excellent videos, " a life of two halves " taking in the 1995 World cup, the game that unified South Africa. Joost had a broken rib, strapped and needled, he tackled the rampaging Jonah Lomu, and saved the match. Then that game against NZ in 1998, probably one of the best I have ever seen. The Springboks before the quota system. The All Blacks at their best.Fantastic.

What is not widely known, is how close Joost came to playing rugby league. In 1995, Peter " bullfrog " Moore offered joost $ 1 million to play for Canterbury to replace terry Lamb. Bullfrog knew his footballers. Joost knocked back $ 1 million dollars to stay with rugby, and South Africa. A man of principle.
