Sump grommet?

I have my 4.6 engine out at the moment fitting a new cam and to my dismay there were 2 large round (50mm) rubber plugs in the bottom of the sump. There is no mention that I can see to these in the manual, what are they?

Where should it go and what does it do?

presuming you have an alloy sump have a look in the end of it . The vertical .

There are two so you`ve found them all and you`re right they are called sump grommets .

If they`ve swollen you may have difficulty refitting and may require new ones .
