I have finally got to talk to the owner of this 2 Door RRC that I have been chasing (OK, my wife calls it stalking) for quite awhile. He is an elderly gentleman that bought it new in 77 and it has been registered ever since. It gets driven nearly everyday and as it is a farm vehicle it has had a few bumps over it's 40 year life.
He told me that they put a modified P76 4.4lt in it around 1989 to give it a bit more grunt (to tow a van I believe). From what I understand it has been bored (with Jag ???? liners and some other make slugs) to bring it upto 5lts.
He also has a 58 Series 2 shortie he uses to tow a small farm trailer with. His wife said "why don't you sell them both and get something reliable" which I thought was funny given the 2 of them have been going for nearly a 100 years between them.
I will know more next week when he has had sometime to think about it.

His wife will be the first to shed a tear if he lets it go. You should try to nab them both.
It's amazing how many variants of that Motor are getting around.

Haha... The old fella's got you hook, line & sinker.
in my experience, a farmer will only sell something if it's:
a) completely trashed and only worth scrap, and is too far away from a shed to be of any use (this means it's usually not able to be moved with a dozer)
b) he can see youre besotted and he knows he can milk you for $$$$ - but of course he's going to take ages to make up his mind
c) his missus is the one doing the wheeling & dealing and sets the price, because she looked over the books and saw how much was paid originally, and thinks there's a good 10-15 years more life in it, so it hasn't truly 'depreciated'
(remember that 'depreciation' to a farmer means it is no longer serviceable and cannot be repaired)
GOOD LUCK !!! :D:D:D:D

Speaking with the son, he mentioned that he thought the old Series 2 was ex-mil. Without checking numbers it may well be a CR (Command Recon) variant.
Now I am really looking forward to our chat next week. :)

Make sure it didn't go under in the flood and it hasn't got any flood mud in it.....
especially if it's over on the north side or out Kolan way.
Good luck.

The farm they are from is not in a flood risk area but I dare say the Series will have some farm mud in it from it's years of paddock service.
