Today's Sydney MX News had a story about a CityRail driver being hauled over the coals for having an Australian flag in his cab.
It seems there were complaints from the public.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>At least one complaint was related to racial tensions. "The driver was using a public transport vehicle to display an Australian flag, which I beleive is racist as the driver was clearly Anglo Saxon," one complainant said.[/b][/quote]
Flamin' heck! Can you imagine that being done in the USA?

If that is determined as racism we are doomed. To the person who deemed it racist, go back to your country of origin.
All in all with the Hysteria surrounding many issues it was only a matter of time until we saw riots/unrest. Both side are probablly as much at fault as each other and need to pull their heads in and learn to live with each other. The media pictures were very disturbing. At least the people here in WA had the sense to ignore the SMS messages here and treat it it with the contempt it deserves.

My initial thoughts were that the complainant was an Aboriginal.
In the past I've been bemused by the American penchant for flying their flag at home or almost anywhere.
However, over the past few years I've becoming more interested in getting a flag pole for my front yard and flying the Aussie flag. I'm even more determined after hearing of a council that ordered some rate-payers to take their flag poles down 'cos they didn't have planning permission.

Over here (in Switzerland) it is nothing unusual to see Flags flying from balconies etc. Can be Swiss, Italian, German, whatever... you just fly your Flag.
One of my friends over here gave me an Australian flag for a wedding present. For the past 2 years I've had it flying on the balcony.
When we get back home I hope to put it up there too - though until I saw this I didn't realise I'd get knocked about for being "racist" for being proud to be Australian and showing it?

Good point, did not think of that. However even if it was an aboriginal it is the recognised flag of our nation and they should be proud of it. Failing that we coul always rebuild the land bridge so they can traverse back to where they originally came from too. None of us - no exceptions are original inhabitants of this country let alone the world, unless you believe a particular story of creation in which case we all are anyway and all related.

That's total bulls**t!
Since when has it become racist to have pride in the nation that you call home!
I can't believe the media even ran with it - I would have told the stupid person complaining to get a life of find another country to live in

Tough luck. They'll need to get used to the Aussie flag.

Some good news. A mate, on the job in Sydney said the driver has been flying the Australian flag in his drivers cab for a couple of years now, the mate rode with the driver yesterday and the flag was still flying.
I’ve never been much of a flag waver but I think it’s time to show the colours.
Let’s face it, the Lebos have won this round, not since the second world war have Aussies been scared to go down to OUR beaches.

I show my true colours and proud of it, not ashmed to say i'm all for a republic, and i also love our current flag too.
The first flag Australians fought for there rights when a peacefull settlement was not availible.
The Eureka campain was NOT an Irish uprising
Many government and police heads rolled after the dust had settled.

Ever wondered why countries have borders?
Ever wondered what most wars have been waged over?
Ever wondered why we were such a lucky country for so long?

Hiya.
Just did a quick search on google for Australian flags. You can get some here (http://www.flagswithflair.com.au/flags.html) but they aren't cheap.
Dunno if that's average, extreme or what.

Hi Grizzly, your not wrong about the prices plus I only did a quick read but nowhere on that site did I see Australian Made.
I know there is a company in Victoria that does make their flags here.
I first heard of them when they made the news just before the Sydney Olympics. The company was having a bitch, and rightly so, because good old Bobby Carr’s Olympic Committee had just bought the Australian and Sydney Olympic flags overseas. TYPICAL.
I don’t know this companies name but I’m interested in getting a flag myself so I’ll try and find them.
Cheers.

How racicially incorrect was the complainant to assume someone was an "Anglo-Saxon".
If someone calls me one of those, I get right off my bike straight away because although I'm caucasion, I'm an Aussie born Gael (Celt) and I object to being bundled in with the A-S tribes!!
Some people need to get lives. I'll fly the flag anywhere I bloody well please...although I will not wear it draped over my shoulders because that's actually illegal and has been forever: Along with letting it touch the ground, being displayed upside down and displayed on the wrong flag-pole when there is more than one (pole). It is also illegal to display it lower than another nations flag on Aussie soil...maybe the organisers of Indy on the Gold Coast should review flag protocols and laws.
As for those "Anglo-Saxon" hoons, they can sod off back to England on the same boat taking the "Lebanese" hoons back to Lebanon. All the Aussies can stay!

I will never get how some people could be bothered to even waist their own time to complain about something so petty. Me thinks they need a hobby. Matt

Australian flags anywhere any time. Christmas decorations and pagents in all schools. If you dont like it rack off to another country. Otherwise come and celebrate with us even if it is not your religion or belief.
