How to power the rear socket from an auxiliary battery

Hi.

Simple question, but is it possible to rewire the rear cargo 12v socket from an auxiliary battery rather than the cranking battery.. Im running a fridge through the rear socket and I want to protect the cranking battery.

I dont want to have to run new cables from engine bay to rear cargo area, so can the existing cables be found in the engine bay and re terminated... If so does anyone have a wiring diagram to assist with.

But from my understanding you would need to pick that power up from the the fusebox behind your glovebox. (Which I reckon would be far harder than running a separate cable.)

I ran power to an anderson plug at the back of the vehicle as part of my dual battery install - so I installed additional points for the fridge run off that.

You *will* want to run new cables as the voltage drop on that line for a fridge is not good for the fridge.

I'd also recommend moving away from a "Ciggy" style socket to ether merit or power poles for a positive connection..

In summary.. run a nice big fused cable to the rear.
Fit another plug...

I have three plugs in the back of mine now - two fed from the aux battery, plus the original still fed from the cranking battery - plus the Anderson plug mounted under the back bumper. Is definitely worth running new, heavier cables to the rear of the vehicle, and is not a difficult job to do (if I can do it, anyone can). ;)

Good point, I mounted an engel plug for exactly that reason.

As others have said, the factory wiring to the rear is undersized to run a fridge properly due to voltage drop. Drivesafe's Traxide dual battery kit is well worth the investiment in the long run. The install instructions are very clear not not so hard to follow.

My D4 is being fitted today with a DBS by Rovertech with an Anderson plug to rear and an Engel socket for the fridge inside rear.
The LR outlet will be good enough to run the shower and lighting when camped.
I'm really looking forward to our first trip with this vehicle although the Cook still keeps giving me mean looks for putting the Deafener up for sale! :p
I keep telling her I need the money to fill the Engel with beer but she's got a nasty attitude about her lately ...... :D

I sort of guessed this would be the answers... I have the traxide unit, but went with the base SC80 rather than the full kit.. So the next question is what is the easiest route from the aux battery to the rear? i know the only firewall point is under the steering wheel, but where from there? along the foot well or is there an easier way?

The Traxide kit connects to an earth stud in the drivers footwell and then runs down the channel under the the door sills.

I'd suggest you give Drivesafe a PM - Tim owns Traxide and is extremely helpful - he may be able to give you the best advice on how to extend what you have successfully.

I'm running the Traxide D3-DU in mine...

Personally, if your second battery is in the engine bay, I would run a separate nice fat wire all the way to the back and keep it separate from any other power drain. You don't want anything else interfering with the feed to the fridge.
As for the route, where does the wiring to the existing plug go - can you follow it?
