I've searched and looked everywhere for information in regards to deleting the A/C compressor from the engine and was wondering if anyone had done it?

I've found an idler pulley and belt on Roverparts for TD5's without aircon compressors.

Is it a just a matter of pulling of the compressor, bolting on the idler and using the shorter belt or is there a bit more to it?

Yeah it's straight forward - I did it, hardest part is always getting the belt back on - on your own. I got a little trick I use, I get a big flat head screwdriver, put a bar on the handle of it. I get underneath the radiator and use the bar/screwdriver to push the tension idler right over then tie the lever/bar off to the track rod the belt goes straight on no problems.

Before you remove it - do you do much offroad driving?
If you do, then consider converting it to an engine driven compressor for inflating tyres etc.
I've never had a close look at a Td5 one, but assume they are a conventional Sanden style multi-piston unit. If so, there's an easy mod for the compressor to convert it to grease lubrication.

Thanks Apache I will have to give that a go, I got a new tensioner anyway as the belt was slipping on cold days so will see how I go.

I did consider that Steve as my mate had done it on his 300ti but already have an onboard compressor and the amount of room the thing takes up under the bonnet I think I will just remove it all together. Don't even know how good it is as it hasn't worked since I bought it.
