Is the pitman-arm balljoint adjustable?

I have some play in the pitman arm balljoint. The bottom cover has a circlip holding it in. Wondering if these are an adjustable balljoint? 2008 Puma defender 130.

Ahh- of course. I vaguely remember putting a new ball joint in one decades ago. Will have to investigate cost vs new arm.

In view of the issues many have in getting the arm off, replacing the ball joint is, in my view, the better option - and it can be done with the arm in place.

If you look at the last page or two of my County build you'll see pics of taking one apart. The cups were very nicely corroded in place and required a lot of force to get out. I'm pretty sure I quickly resorted to my press. Of course mine could have been from 1986. Yours hopefully won't be that bad! In theory you can remove the cups using a vice - I just didn't see a reason to battle away in my vice when I had a press 2m away. :)

There is a tool that paddock spares sells to remove and reinstall that balljoint. They also sell the replacement kit. I've done it recently,very easy job. tool is SKU: DA1125

The tool is just a couple of very thick washers a spacer and a nut & bolt. Ball Joint Fitment and Removal Tool - Paddock Spares (http://www.paddockspares.com/ball-joint-fitment-and-removal-tool.html)
Did mine in situ but the cup was corroded in place and took a bit of work to remove. Fun holding the cap in place against the spring while the circlip is inserted, ended up using a motorcycle valve spring compressor.

Thanks for the offer Colin but I'm sure I have enough clamps, big bolts and round things here to get by.
I do vaguely recall doing this on one of my Rangies years ago. With the adjustment question I think I was confusing it with a Maxidrive rear axle ball joint I had on one of the RRs that was adjustable and greasable. Also thirty-odd years ago when I was (almost) making a (miserable) living fixing jap cars there were a few adjustable ones around.
