50,000 plus km with no problems at all. Then today my wife is driving my 2014 Defender to work and the engine warning light comes on and she goes into crawl mode. Apparently just before she heard some bad noises and then lost power.

Worst of all on the weekend I crashed her car so our other vehicle is out of action.

Anyway, don't yet know what is wrong with the Defender but Land Rover Assist and Barbegellos helped her out as I am away for work. She has even ended up with a brand new Range Rover Sport as a loaner!

it wasn't long before I was getting photos of it and descriptions of how nice it is to drive.

I can just imagine a new episode of a Blackadder with Baldric in a Land Rover show room describing Defender reliability as part of their cunning plan to get a husband in to ultimately up-sell to a luxury vehicle.

Hopefully its nothing more than the small intercooler pipe on the passenger side, I've had a few customers that once their Defender TDCi (puma) 2.2 gets to 40 - 50K that hose splits, coupled with noise and engine light shortly after...

This happened to me earlier this month (turbo hose). Not a huge drama.
The factory hose on the LHS is a single ply rubber hose which delaminates and splits very easily. The RHS hose is equally cantankerous with the steering shaft problem...

Same here, i've had both hoses go on separate occasions. First time was the right hand side hose, I got land rover assist to pick it up and the dealer took 3 days to fix it.... 2nd time was the left side hose, I drove it 100+kms like that then the dealer fixed it in an hour.

And a added note on the drivers side inter cooler hose that wears through the steering knuckle, later Defenders had a bracket added off the alternator to keep the hose from dropping down.

So are currently available hoses any better than the old ones? My passenger side hose is being replaced currently and I'd like to think the new hose will last a bit longer.
