Does anyone know what Cooper HT+ tyres are like??
I want to upgrade the Wranglers on the D3, particularly since I tore one in half, but theres nothing available in an AT in 255/60R18.
The Cooper HT is still a highway tyre, but may be more puncture resistant than the wrangler, and is available in a 265/60R18, which is only 6mm larger in overall diameter.
I don't want to spend the money, only to find out that they aren't even as good as the wranglers

Jamo,
Sent you a PM.
I can't tell you if the Cooper HT's are better than Wranglers because I've got Cooper ST's in a 17" on my D3.
I haven't destroyed any Wranglers yet but did slice a big chunk out of the sidewall when I slid into a rock. If you are slicing tyres up I think you better go to an AT with stronger tyre construction than a road tyre.
It may mean that you can only get something in a 17" in Australia at the moment - like Coopers. The investment in a set of 5 wheels is probably going to pay for itself when you don't need to keep buying replacement road tyres or if you ever need to replace the original D3 wheel (expect to pay $1200 or more for a wheel). A set of 5 after market wheels for Performance woun't cost you more than $1600-$1700.

Thanks PCH.
I had been told that the 17" wouldn't fit on the TDV6 HSE, but that's obviously incorrect as they fit yours.
I have already bought a new 18" rim as the original rim was cracked when I tore the tyre. It was covered by insurance so the $1,700 cost was reduced to $200.
I'll have a look at the Perfomance Wheels and probably take your advice and get a second set for bush work.
Thanks again

Not quite on the topic, but this thread covers some of this:

Not exactly what you're looking for, but might be fun.

I'd need engineer certification in WA to run 35" tyres!
It'd be cool but might cause even more problems. I understand that varying the tyre diameter by too much can stuff up the traction control.

Just in case you haven't been this way before, watch the beaches between Esperance and Hopetoun - they can be really soft. I haven't been further west than that (beachwise that is).
Caught a nice mulloway the other weekend out east. Had the Disco on her belly at one stage, even after she entered 'extended mode'. No diffs hanging down and two diff locks meant I didn't stop moving. Good thing too as I didn't really want to confirm that the key was waterproof whilst it was still in the ignition!

I have run the Coopers Discover H/T 18" for 6 months now and have found them to be very good in all terrain. This is the only decent 4x4 tyre I have found until now in 18" rims. I would love if Coopers put out an ST in 18" I am hopeing by the next tyre change that this might happen. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
I have had someone else mention that BGF might have a MT in this size but yet to check it out.
Would like to know myself if anyone knows if a 18" 255mm size 4x4 MT tyre is around or arriving soon.

Anybody know of a dealer in WA for Grabbers? I tried accessing this info. through the website but nothing came up.
I asked a tyre retailer a year or so ago in Perth and hsi response was " I wouldn't sell that s**t"!!!!!
Nice bloke and definitely won't be going to him for anything.
I've got 235 x 85 x 16 ATs which were fitted as standard on the Extreme when I bought it new and they've now done 46000klms with heaps of tread left and very little damage even after the GRR and Kalumabru Rd etc.
I just hope that any replacements I get are made to the same formula and not down graded for some reason!

Baz, I was under the impression that the Pirelli Scorpions are good tyres.

General Tires in the US (Owned by Continental) offer the 18" in 255/55/18 and also 255/60/18 in an AT pattern. The 60 profile is available in a few weeks and you can get these in Sydney via ARB in St Peters for $340 each fitted. These guys are the only manufacturer of AT's to suite the standard Disco 18" wheels.
I am just about to get some for myself.

Thanks for the info on the Simex Grabbers they look like they will be the best 4x4 tyre for 18" rims available. When these Coopers where out I also will look at getting a set through ARB.

Can't vouch for the 18' Pirellis but he 16's on my car are great, only doone gravel roads and beach work so far but I would say that they are close to 80% as good as the MTR's I replaced them with. (sick of the noise)
In the gravel they tend to slid ever so slightly then hang on, and for the sand they seemed to have no probs at all. I will be using the in mud and in a 4wd park in the next coule of weeks. (so can update)
A mate in the club had them on a surf and got over 70k out of them. (MTR's not quite that good)
Hope this helps
Danny
