I have some large cutting discs and wondering how they would go in a drop saw for the odd occasion I need to cut rhs / she square ?

Just check the speeds are compatible I.e. Drop saw doesn't spin too fast.

Yeah that is the main issue as they don't have a reduction of any kind.

My drop saw runs at 5000rpm and the commercial cut off saws run at 3800/3900 so i might give it a go and see how it works.

My GMC 14" metal cut off saw runs at 3750. The steel cut off disc is ok to 4,400rpm and the masonry discs are ok to 5,500.

I have a metal cut off saw you (or any other subscriber) can have if you can collect from Moe .... I lent it to someone once, not sure it ever got used, its still in the box. Is an ebay special, has some surface rust on base (they sent a replacement but let me keep the original) - but otherwise likely as new.

I did exactly that in a big Makita slide compound mitre saw some years ago, cutting the same stuff................. just coz I could.
The only downsides were buildup of hot metal 'sawdust' in the sliding clear guard and the metal frame holding the guard and a few other places.
Bought a Metabo (made in China) cut off saw after that experience.
cheers, DL
