I remember reading on here that a freelander used 82 can`t remember the member that knew about it .
The link is Wiki so your choice

K V6 doesn`t look like it either and the pipe fittings are different and diameters may be wrong but right number and 82
You`d need to have them side by side to compare .

There are heaps of thermostats for sale on ebay, but none/not many claim any specs other than fitment for various versions of the D2.
But, there is one of the many others I've found on there:
Tridon thermostat on ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-TRIDON-Standard-Thermostat-For-Land-Rover-Discovery-Turbo-Diesel-2-5L-/151325208317?hash=item233baf6efd:g:c4EAAOxyRuJTmCb P)
He's a bit pricey compared to the others listed, but it's a Tridon and at least the specs are listed .. at 82degrees!
Hope that helps.
EDIT: the Tridon part No. appears to be TT439-180P.

I found that when I put the lower rated thermostat in my GEMS the engine ran too cold. Really a cooling system in good shape should work fine with the standard thermostat

Yep, totally agree,,
off the showroom floor.
19 odd years now for a D2 Thor,, how many for the P38a?
and even off the floor 96 was too much.
I reckon 20 years later anything over 80 will do fine. ;)

I fond these for my GEMS version, but I am not sure about fitment in the replacement housing
Tridon
TT2000-180 - Thermostat (High Flow) 82C; Tridon (TT1-180 is standard) 54mm flange
TT2000-190 - 88C (TT1-190)
As I said I finished up using the 88 degree one because it ran too cold on the 82 degree one and I saw no reason to use more fuel for no perceived advantage ;)
Also the 82 degree one did not seem to improve the overall performance of the cooling system, it got just as hot under heavy loads and high external temperatures with either thermostat
