G'day All,
I have a 85 Land Rover 120 with the Isuzu 3.9. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
The alternator is the Nippondenso 40 amp. It has the vacum attachment at the rear and works. I'm restoring this truck and want to put a bigger alternator.
Would like around 70 amps. (or more  ) and a unit that I can just bolt straight in.
Any ideas of what will just bolt straight on.

have you compared it to a commodore one of similar vintage.....

i think they had a similar alternator without the vuccuum pump.....
(long time ago....bad memory)

I just rebuilt the alternator on my Isuzu, it was a 70 amp from memory and also has the vacum at the rear. Cant remember the brand of the top of my head.....and it's dark and late, so I'll have a look tomorrow for you. Oh and it bolt's straight into the standard mountings.
From memory a new one was quoted at around the nine hundred mark.

Cheers Larns

Have you considered looked at Jap Import Truck Wreckers? The Isuzu 4BD1 and 4BD1-T are still being made today and have been fitted to NPR trucks for yonks. There would have to be a wrecker about somewhere who has a shelf full of various alternators for NPR's (They come in a range of weight/wheelbase specifications and have different spec alt's for the required enduse)

G'day All, My 1984 110 3.9Isuzu has a standard Hitachi 70 amp alt fitted with the Vacuum pump, so they are out there and incidentally it has never given me any problems cheers Dennis

Thanks for that, will look for a Hitachi 70 amp. If came standard then fan belts are also not an issue.

David.

No need for the PM

I replaced the 40amp alt on my 4bd1 with a 120amp. Includes vac pump and is a genuine Isuzu part off an NPR. I bought mine brand new but you may be able to source one s/h. I will have to check the model number for you as most of them are 24v now.

It took me months to find the best alt as I have lots power requirements including winch, 1000w inverter, 2 fridges etc.

Not a cheap exercise, was $1100 all told, but well and truely worth it.

Will get the part number and a pic later today.

I have a freind in the auto elec trade and bounce a few prices off him
(some of the prices on here are bloody keen and what he tells me he would sell to me for)
he can get this alterantor for me for $750 inc gst
still a bloddy expensive alternator but better than $1100
I better start saving to get one for the "new" county

G'day all, I recently got a brand new alternator locally here in Cairns for under $500 inc. o/nite frieght. It's a Hitachi with the vac pump and rated at 120AMP's. It fits on the standard Isuzu 4BD1 bracket with minimal modification. I have a round three pin plug that went straight into the rear of this unit.
According to the wholesaler, the unit is normally fitted to a Holden(Isuzu) Jackaroo 3.1 TDI. Hope this helps, cheers Gerry.....
