View Full Version : where's Gordon?

Anyone know how to get hold of Gordon? I've been trying for a couple of weeks now. [bigsad]
Urgently need to get hold of my EAS rods I ordered several weeks ago as I'm going to Wellington dam this weekend and could really use the extra height. Grabbing the EAS compressor bash-plate I ordered too would be useful too!
I understand he was in Sydney to conduct a training session but no replies to email / voicemail or text?
Or does anyone have a set of rods they'd be willing to loan me (or rent me) for the weekend? I'm located in Perth
cheers guys

I was with Gordon at the Sand course at Forster NSW over the last weekend. He didn't intend to leave Forster until Monday morning. He probably won't be back in Perth till at least late today or tomorrow.
However, I wouldn't try to contact him. In view of what has been happening it was no doubt a strain on him to still run the course. It's not appropraite for me to publicly discuss what the issues are, however, I'd suggest that Gordon should be not hassled for a couple of weeks at least.

Trevor, how was the course? Where in Forster was it held?

Trevor, how was the course? Where in Forster was it held?
The course was excellent.
We all learned heaps. It's unbelievable how capable the D4 is on sand. No safety issue or problems with the course at all.
We were all based at the Tuncurry Big 4. After Sat morning lecture, out onto Tuncurry Beach for the drive along the whole length. 10km or so I'd guess. Continual reinforcement about dsc off. Just practice is dry and wet sand. looking at fuel consumption. Also practicing command shift driving. We had all aired down to 16-17 for this beach.
Air up. we all practiced emergency stop. Never knew this. Impressive.
Drove up to Old Bar beach 16-17 again. Some fording through a channel to a sand bar. Advised on the role on rock crawl mode when needed even on sand or water. Demonstated about how to get extended and emergency height with jack method.
Sunday- down to sandbar beach very soft. I would not have believed a car do drive on this stuff. 16-17 at first but a couple of us nearly got stuck and one couldn't get up dune. Just digging in. We all dropped to 12. Huge difference. Practice in really soft stuff plus opportunity for all to go up some dunes. We also all practiced sand recovery with snatch, but I reckon in reality a D4 may never need snatching.
No one needed to use Maxtrax at all. Gordon turned off everything and bogged his RR sport to the chassis. Meant to be a maxtrax demo. Dug out 2 wheels a bit with shovel then did the lowering trick to that the car extends up and then he went to emergency height. Thought we may have had to use maxtrax but car can straight out. Everyone impressed.
Later in afternoon for those who wanted and had sliders a rough trip down McBrides Beach trail. Got some nice video.
A great confidence building weekend.

The rims are due in about now. I have one on order too and Gordon told me a couple of weeks ago that they were arriving in early March.
As soon as he has them he will ship them I'm sure. I will be picking mine up but I have not yet been informed that they are in, so there's no way that they will be delivered just yet.

I find his lack of response to emails to be rather annoying and not the way I expect to be treated. If you can't give customers an exact date then keeping them informed might be a better business model, not just ignoring them.

Only three vehicles went down McBrides. It has been raining and Gordon was concerned how slippery it might have been so he suggested that only the vehicles with sliders should attempt it otherwise it was almost guaranteed that you'd get some sill damage. As it turned out it was not greasy at all despite the rain.
I didn't take my vehicle as my wife would kill me if I dented the thing. I went as a passenger with Gordon in his rrs. One other guy came as a passenger as well. Got some good video.
We went down the hard track from half way down and came up the easier way. No one did any damage but there were a couple of scratches on the sliders. No one got stuck at all. If I had sliders I'd go. The D4 is an awesome vehicle.

big shout out to Guthrie who loaned me his GOE rods. These provided me with some AMAZING LIFT which is just what this trail needed as it was deeply rutted, very steep but my Disco4-V8 climbed it like a goat - with standard 20" rims and highway tyres!!!!
I was blown away and left my bro-in-law's D40 Navara (2" lift, no lockers) and his brother's FJ40 LWB Cruiser (no lockers either) in my dust!
My biggest fear was pinching a sidewall but some careful wheel placement on the rocky sections and a spotter got me through unscathed.
I am more amazed than ever what the Disco's can do with a little more EAS height and a little knowledge of what the Terrain Response system is trying to do

I'm a little confused at the comments regarding expected delivery of rims - I just missed the December 15th order cutoff when I ordered mine, and the next cutoff date listed was the 15th of February, with an expected ETA in Perth mid-April. Not sure how long they'll take to get to me in VIC, but I'm not expecting to see them until late April (hopefully in time for the GOE training weekend in VIC).
If they were ordered before December 15th, I agree you should have them by now. Unless there was a January order I didn't see on the GOE page...?

Received a phone call from carriers today. Tried to deliver Friday but no one home. Will be delivering 5 new GOE rims tomorrow.
Mine were in the shipment that was partially wrecked last year, so I have been waiting since last July.
I did volunteer to wait so I am not complaining, just happy to get them
cheers

G'day Gang.
I have received communication from Gordon as no doubt many of you have. The factory producing the rims had not allowed enough time to fully fulfil Gordon's order. This particularly relates to the colour grey. There will be another production run in April.Rather than freight by ship,Gordon has opted to air freight these. He is trying hard to source the colour black by negotiating with known UK stockists.

Well that's not what he told me. He was supposed to be finding out the tracking number so I could find out where the hell my wheels are. I have heard nothing else and was led to believe they were on their way from Perth. I am quickly losing patience. I know he has suffered a personal loss and I feel for him but I don't like being led up the garden path. I will attempt to ring him tomorrow and if he doesn't respond, I want my money back.

Nice bloke, very knowledgable. But he has a crap memory for faces. [emoji1]That might extend to other things.
I drove him a couple of places around Brisbane when he was over here. After getting out of my car, to meet up with a training group, I walked over to join the group and he asked what car I was in. I thought it was a trick question.
My car was so peeved it spat a tranny just after that. All good now.

Well this is getting beyond a joke. I ordered the wheels on the 19 Dec and was told an end of Jan delivery. I accept reasonable delays etc but he never replies to emails and when I finally got hold of him over a week ago I was told my wheels had been sent from Perth and he was gong get back to me with a tracking number so I could contact TNT and find out where they are. I have been emailing him again this week and no response. I start leave at the end of next week and I want to have the wheels and new tyres fitted. I will ring him tomorrow and if he doesn't answer I will be taking steps to get a refund and put some decent rubber on my 20" rims.

I believe I have been very patient but when someone tells you that the wheels have been shipped and they will get back to you with a tracking number I expect that they will. My front tyres on the D4 need replacing ASAP. Do I just buy a couple of 20" tyres and be patient so my car is roadworthy. I was told when I ordered the rims that I would have them by the end of January. If I paid an extra $600 I could of had them sooner. I was prepared to wait and I would wait longer if Gordon actually replied to emails and kept me informed. I am sorry but perhaps I am not very virtuous.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat and I paid the extra to have them sent direct. It's pretty rubbish having coughed up almost $4k with nothing to show for it. Sadly left in the dark as well with poor return communication.

Firstly, I have nothing to do with Gordon, nor have I ever meet the man. FFS, his mother has recently passed and although his followup responses (or lack of them) in regard to his business dealings has/is not ideal, he is not about to scarper off to Rio.
IMHO, throwing fuel on the fire with threats does not really help the situation and as far as this thread disappearing, it like every other thread on the forum needs to stay within the rules and guidelines. If it doesn't, it will be acted on accordingly.

I take your point entirely. I think the only thing the guys are asking for is some communication. They have made an internet purchase of several thousand $$$ and could probably be excused if they were feeling a bit jumpy about ever seeing their purchase or $$$ back.
Hell, all it would take if he didn't want to write several emails, would be a two line post on here to say "...I've got a bit on my plate at the moment guys, give me a bit of room and I'll sort it out in a couple of weeks"......

I sympathise with those that currently have a problem, but i'm not sure the way this thread is starting to go is actually going to help anyone.

To be honest there are a couple more that out of respect are not saying anything and using the benifit of doubt .
But at the end of the day one will out weigh the other and sometimes not necessary helpful .
I hope this does not turn into a all time low and all concerned can show respect to each other including the gallery.

if anyone had sent him an email they would get an autoresponse that gave a date he would be back on deck, i would assume, as i noticed the system is getting responses back when the system sends a notifaction email.
i looked thru the logs yesterday and it popped up.
whilst we try to treat vendors as well as we can, being one, simply doesn't ensure you play under different rules, as i am sure tombie and drivesafe amongst others, will be only to willing to attest.
last but not least, non affected people whipping up feelings won't help anyone and is likely to draw attention from the mods.

I had tried to contact Gordon many times without success last few months either by email or phone in relation to the EAS kit order from last November. I noticed something happened to him but do expect a response when it is possible. I had allowed last few months since it also affect my schedule to off-road trip since he promised to the rim to me before easter, finger crossed. As a small business owner, work six days a week with my wife plus 4 kids in school. Time management is critical, I always remain the priority to serve the customers, balance work and family. It is a skill to learn from time to time, I think that I will need help if I can't fullfill the responsibility to my customer who paid for my life, this is also their hard earned money. I do feel the personal loss, but life still go on. Get some assistance since so many members care about you, I will help if I am in Perth, it is my hobby and passion. some who have outlayed thousands of $$ would most likely think that if he has time to run training courses , he has time to reply to emails and txts . That seems to be the biggest issue from what I have read . I think all parties understand Gorden is going thru a tough time
Just adding another side to it.

I understand that he has personal issues but when you are sitting on $1000s of other peoples money it is time to man up and deal with your responsibilities. Yes, I am about as tactful as a blunt axe, that's who I am. I pay my bills and expect the same respect from vendors.

I have had my issue with Gordon last year and I presume that his recent personal events are the same that caused my delay. My comment is that when you are in business you are dealing with other people's money, time, personalities. Whilst I empathise with Gordon, the simple fact is he is in business. What would we think if Gerry Harvey had "personal: issues and his stores just took your money with no feed back. Would we all be so demanding of the population giving the Harvey Norman stores the same "slack" as requested here? People go into business for varying reasons. But the fact remains, that taking someones money and then no contact, email, etc is plain just poor business practice. I too have looked overseas and at other local suppliers and realize I can buy many of the GOE type items and usually at a lesser cost for same. He lost me last year, and he will be hard pressed to get any business from me again. He might be a good bloke... so was Tony Mokbel when I had dealings with him, and we all know where he is now. People have offered to help. If that is being refused then I think all the disgruntled purchasers are entitled to a refund if thats what they want.

Chris.
Ive offered to help Gordon out if he needs help.I also asked him to yell out if the Land Rover community can help out in any way.
I think time is what Gordon may need.
I'm sure getting out and doing the training sessions would really help him at the moment.

I find it rather difficult how people keep saying what a great bloke Gordon is when he can't be bothered to respond to emails or answer his phone when a great deal of people have forked out a great deal of money. I personally like to support Australian businesses and a Australian designed product. It is not good enough. So many times in my life I have heard people make excuses for people who just don't deserve it. "He didn't really mean to hit her" "She deserved it" "The money was there so I just took It" "I couldn't help myself" When do we say to someone, "Your behaviour and attitude is unacceptable" Some will say I am being too harsh but I would have been prepared to wait for the wheels if I had some reassurance that they would turn up one day. Hopefully I will get my money back through PayPal but I still think this is an unacceptable way to behave. Maybe I expect too much.

Hi all,
Okay, I'm back and yes, I've been off the grid for a few months due to a funeral and associated family issues, and my and my daughter's worsening conditions. However I'd like to keep the details private at this time. I apologise for the lack of communication on my end - it sounds like such a simple thing to do, but when you're in that headspace, the trauma just swamps everything else. If not for my wife, I don't think I'd have coped enough to return to work. Even so, I've had to resign from my day job, as I am just not well enough to do it justice.
Thanks to all that have sent condolences and offers of help - it's really appreciated, even if I don't take you up on them.
Let's start with rims (a bit long-winded, but gives some context):
I lost half a shipment in January (and still haven't had the insurance resolved). That's a lot of money down the toilet, as well as a lot of stock. For those that are unaware, the PD1881 rims are not a stock item - they're made in a custom production run that is booked in at the factory between their normal production dates. When I originally specc'd the rims and hawked them around to various manufacturers, there were none willing to take it on, due to the very low numbers (relatively speaking) involved. Compomotive were the only ones who agreed to setting up a custom production, in part due to their relationship (at the time) with Bowler LR.
So we generally book production runs for Autralasia, the US, SA and UK markets, at a max of 150 rims per run (although only the Australian and SA shipments get close to that). Trying to fit in an extra production to make up for my lost stock is difficult. The factory had some backup stock which they sent, but that wasn't enough. By the time they located additional unsold stock (from various dealers etc in the UK) it was too late to ship them over, so I made the decision to start airing them here at my cost. This is coming in dribs and drabs as the rims are returned to the factory. Unfortunately they have all so far been black, so no greys right now.
At this stage, there are still 4 sets of grey and 5 sets of black outstanding. If you're one of those clients, please PM me for an estimated ETA or a refund. I note that Carl Of The Blunt Axe didn't mention that he talked to me last Thursday and asked if he could have a refund, which of course he can. Referring to a previous post, I don't "sit" on anyone's money. As soon as the rims are ordered, I pay for them, so refunds take a little while as I either claim the money back or onsell the order.
The next production run was scheduled for the end of May, but the factory have managed to slot one in for April, just after Easter. This should bring everything up to date and we will still have the end of May production as well.
Other Products:
All compressor plates and rods are now ready and are being posted out Express Post. Transmission plates are also ready, but going via courier. Most EAS kits are ready, I think there's two large and 1 small kit not yet assembled and tested, but that should be done by the end of the week. Deluxe kits and front bash plates are all waiting for powder-coating and will ship via courier next week.
If there's anyone I've missed out, please PM me.
Again, thanks for everyone's patience.

All our thoughts are with you on your recent events.
On a plus side I have just started working with your son at FQM again. I have taken up the position of Emergency Services and Security Coordinator and your son is a Security Emergency Officer. I hope we can progress him in his role. Just trying to get him involved in CAMS stuff now if he wants. Been a hectic first week here hopefully tomorrow I will get a chance to sit down and have a good chat.

Yes, I've had contact with Gordon. Continued manufacturing delay with Compo rims. Was the end of April, now two weeks into May I'm told after chasing Gordon down for another update. A positive is that the new batch are supposedly a fully flow-formed rim with added strength and 12.1kg's each vs 12.7. Win for the wait I guess [emoji38]

You people are way more patient than me. After all the unanswered emails and phone calls I can say I have my money back through PayPal and I am about to get the 20" rims painted and fit Nittos or BFG 275/50/20. Maybe one day we will get a reliable Australian reseller of these 18" rims and I will probably purchase them, but I have lost faith with the current supplier.

I can't comment on your situation as I have no idea how long you've been waiting. But as a new D4 owner with forty or so years of off-road experience with Landrovers, I was happy to wait for a better solution than the ridiculous 19" rims. I placed my order about six weeks ago (literally the same day as I purchased the D4) and was aware the rims would be part of a manufacturing batch, so I was expecting a wait. I also placed an order with Gordon for an EAS kit (as I've had twenty years of experience with Classic and P38 EAS systems and figured if someone had worked out a kit for the D4 then why should I re-invent that wheel?) and an EAS protection plate (ditto).
The plate was delivered a week or so ago and is still sitting in the garage as I've been busy taking the D4 into its natural habitat. Gee! It's a sensational vehicle. It had no right to gobble up the worst of the Caledonia River Track with such contempt. With 19" road tyres! Mind you, it would have been tricky if the track had been wet, but I had fitted a bullbar and winch by then, so was reasonably comfortable. But I digress. I expect the EAS kit will arrive in good time and so will the rims.

When I bought my D4 there was a set of Compomotives on another D4 in a car yard in Brisbane. I thought about going to the car yard and offering to swap them for the 20" wheels. I didn't get around to it as I was busy but someone else did. The salesman had no idea.

You do an excellent job at polishing them, Andy.

When I bought my D4 there was a set of Compomotives on another D4 in a car yard in Brisbane. I thought about going to the car yard and offering to swap them for the 20" wheels. I didn't get around to it as I was busy but someone else did. The salesman had no idea.
No sure if it was the same car but I know a guy in Brissy who saw a set of Compomotives on a D4 in a car yard. He approached the yard and did a swap for the wheels he had on his D4. I don't believe any money changed hands as the guy in the yard said they couldn't sell the D4 with the 18s on it.

I have been contacted by PM by several people who are now seriously concerned of the behaviour of this lot for not answering emails or the phone. This enterprise has several thousands of dollars of forum members money and when they express their concerns their comments have been deleted. Some of these people have been waiting over 9 months for delivery. I have been refunded through PayPal but most of these people will not be able to as it is now over 180 days. I love this forum but I am getting increasingly concerned where the moderator constantly reminds us what a 'great bloke' runs this organisation and then deletes peoples threads who would argue otherwise. If people sate the facts of their experience with an organisation then I think they deserve to be heard.

you need to start by getting your facts straight.
your making quite a few incorrect assumptions
the thread was moved by me, to be vetted by my legal team as it contained defamatory content by people with absolutely no connection to the issues at hand expressing ill informed comment and opinion with no regard for the facts.
the moderator you assume had a hand in it being moved, played no part in it.
any content of that thread deemed not an issue will be returned in due course, as is always the case when contentious posts are made.
the main thread discussing the business in question is still open so I find your assertions that there is a cover up more than a little curious.
this thread has been merged with that thread

I suggest anyone participating in this thread stick to opinion based on their own experience
to do otherwise leaves your self open to litigation, real or vexacious if this lot ends up in a court of law which I suspect it will.

Paddy wanted to be an accountant, so he went and took the Irish accountancy exam.
Examiner: If I give you two rabbits and then I give you another two rabbits, how many rabbits do you have?
Paddy: Five.
Examiner: No, listen carefully again. If I give you two rabbits and then I give you another two rabbits, how many rabbits have you got?
Paddy: Five.
Examiner: Let's try this another way. If I give you two bottles of beer and then I give you another two bottles of beer, how many bottles of beer have you got? Clean Irish Jokes
Paddy: Four.
Examiner: Good! Now, if I give you two rabbits and then I give you another two rabbits, how many rabbits have you got?
Paddy: Five.
Examiner: How on earth do you work out that two lots of two rabbits is five?
Paddy: I've already got one rabbit at home!

It's always important to take into account motives of people's actions when making your assessments.
Yes, it's frustrating that you (and others) are experiencing delays. I would be frustrated, too. But it's important to distinguish between a delay that's caused by a crisis in a man's life and a delay that's caused by sloppy business practice. They're not the same thing.
Gordon has served this forum very well for a number of years; his reputation is not that of a bad businessman.
I don't think he woke up one morning and decided to rip people off. The guy has serious issues in his life and needs time and space to sort them out. His issues are bigger than your missing wheels, so give him a break.
Yes, it would be nice if he could continue running his business without a hiccup whilst handling his personal issues, but right now it seems that he can't. It's not a sign that he has no personal values. It's not a sign that he has become a bad businessman. It's simply a sign that he is human and has his limitations. As do all of us.
Last year I went through some issues with my wife. I also run my own business and usually my attitude towards work is like that of a bull charging at the gates. I make **** happen. I work hard and play hard. But when I had problems with The One, work was the last thing on my mind. As a result, I ****ed people off and, after it was all sorted, had decent-sized fires that I had to put out. And I suspect that Gordon's issues are much, much bigger than the ones I experienced.
I think the issue is exacerbated by the fact that Gordon is choosing to not disclose much about what's really going on in his life. His "strong and silent" approach, although understandable, is adding fuel to the fire. I believe that if he openly shared with us what he is going though, the forum's reaction here would be very different. People would rally around him and support him as a community. After all, that's what we are, aren't we? Surely this is bigger than the endless conversations about squeaking tailgates and debates about the best wheel/tyre size combination for a D4 (which, for the record, is 265/60/18). [smilebigeye][smilebigeye]
With that in mind, I urge everyone to exercise some restraint in criticising Gordon. Let's raise above the bickering and look at the situation in context. Which really is - the Gordon's issues are interfering with our desire to play with our toys. Come on - right now people all around the world are having much bigger problems than that.

Some very good points there.
I know absolutely nothing about what has gone on,nor have i had anything to do with GOE.
But i have run a business for over 26yrs.
What i would have done,if i could have, is refunded the money as quickly as possible.
One thing i have learnt over the years,is people don't take to kindly if they have paid and not received something, whatever it is.
Once the money has been returned, the business owner is in the clear.
Just my 2cents worth
Edit, one thing i forgot to say is communication.Communication with the customer is also critical.

I am not a business person but I find it extremely frustrating when someone who has promised delivery of a product in a certain time frame will not answer emails or his phone. If he has the time to continue to run his training activities he can sit down and write an email to every person who he has taken an order from and explain exactly what is happening or offer their money back. It really is that simple. It is called manners and common courtesy. If you don't posses these skills in this great country then don't go into business. I am a soldier and I marched today with thousands of others who have gone off to serve their country so that we can live in a fair and just society. I don't believe taking people's money and then ignoring them is fair and just. As I said, I am not a businessman but I do have a very solid set of morals and values. They have been tested many times.

I have now closed this thread.
There have been some pretty inaccurate statements and some grossly incompetent assumptions posted and it appears to have become a contest over who has the strongest moral compass with little regard for the other parties still involved.
If you have information that is pertinent and of assistance to any parties that are affected I will open the thread for that information to be posted.
PM me directly with what you wish to post.
EVERYONE should be aware that all sales of new goods in Australia are covered by the Australian Consumer Garantee
Consumer guarantees | ACCC (https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/consumer-guarantees)
If you are not conversant with this legislation or are unable to work out how it affects you, or how you can enact it, I recommend that you seek competent professional legal advice.
Whilst AULRO.com is doing what it can to assist all parties, there is very little it can do other than recommend you get competent legal advice at this point in time.
Thank you for your time.
