This fellow makes some sense.

Andrew MacLeod worked as an aid worker for the Red Cross in Yugoslavia and Rwanda in the 1990s and for the UN in Pakistan, Afghanistan as well as other locations in the 2000’s. He is the author of A Life Half Lived published this year by New Holland Press.

It's true that aid programmes should be focussed on projects that make a difference and do not just create welfare dependence.
However that's very different to saying that cutting foreign aid is a good thing.
From personal experience I can say we support two girls to go to school in Indonesia. Without our support those girls would not even be at school. Their mothers are widows and can't afford school fees. If they could the boys would be sent to school and the girls would be doing housework, selling food in a roadside stall and probably either have already been married off or be selling sex.
So, there are benefits to our support even before getting jobs is considered.
As for Trump, does the world need more guns or more people kept alive? Pretty sure I know the answer to that question.

It is an admirable trait that kind hearted people are willing to make a small sacrifice, in order to make those less fortunate have a better quality of life. Who knows, one of those girls may grow up to be famous scientist, or Doctor, finding cures for exotic diseases. The reality is, of course, at least it gives them a future, and they should not become part of that marginalised society that is so susceptible to extremist groups. Education is the key. Have you paid a visit to the family?
