Hi all,

I'm about to take delivery of my new Discovery Sport - my first Land Rover and I'm feeling very adult now. [smilebigeye]

1. Just wondering if anyone has taken out the Extended Warranty and what your opinion is about it. We plan to keep the car for a while (at least until our kids outgrow the 3rd row seats).

2. And the Service Plan?

Thanks in advance.

I would never take the extended warranty plan but others swear by it. So your choice. From experience with my D4 most things that fail are fixed under warranty and then the next major round of failures start at around 200,000km, which I assume would be outside the extended warranty period on a new car. The things that start needing work at 200,000 plus km are mostly due to wear, which is different to warranty type failures.

I have the capped price servicing but I don't intend to service it at 36,000km intervals so I will have to pay more for the interim oil changes. I don't really know whether it is good value or not, given the extended servicing interval it is based on. The salesman made it sound like value though and in this case I went along with what he said. When I got home I realized that servicing at 36000km intervals means that it is probably not as good value as it seems, due to the low number of services involved.

My experience with LR warranty repairs is that you are better off with an independent.
Chances are your issue will actually get fixed and you won't end up with damage to your car that wasn't there when you took it in.
