Towing-Looking for a water and rustproof set of trailer plugs

OK cannot find anything specific on this so here we go

Situation is we are purchasing an AOR Q+ shortly and with that comes a change to a 12 pin flat plug. Now we have used these before and I have to say we have always had problems with the power pin corroding amongst other issues.

As we are on the road (dirt mainly) for around 4-5 months each year now I am looking for a decent male and female plug setup that is water and dust proof and has some very robust connectors so they carry the current and also doesn't pull apart on the road

I hope there is already a body of knowledge out there on this one

I just run the standard 7 pin round plug that is mounted on the back of the D4, plus an Anderson plug mounted in a separate housing under the rear bumper for power supply (it is part of the Traxide dual battery system).

Have never had any problems with these falling out / dirt or water ingress or corrosion. [wink11]

In addition to these, I still have the other (white) outlet on the back of the vehicle which I could use if I needed to - but to date have never used it.

Thanks for that. Need 12 pins for the setup plus 2xAnderson plugs with one for charging and the other for the ALKO iq7 disc brake hydraulic control system. White plug was replaced by second And when we fitted the Traxide system 2 years back. We have always used 7 pin round for the larger pins and the ability to get metal plugs and sockets. So that is where I want to go if it is in the market somewhere.

Having a plug drop out of our new system does not bear thinking about. Lose the brake Ando and you get immediate lockup on the camper to start with. It's interesting and different but nothing special

If you want dust & water proof the European 13 pin plugs will give you that. BMW's & VW's run them standard so there's quite a few places you can get them.

Thanks for that greatly appreciated and they are local. Will send it off to AOR and if they approve looks like the go and the price is rather surprisingly low as well. Just hope the quality is up there

When I was at Mornington on the GRR the bloke next door had his Anderson 50 amp fall out on the road in and it destroyed the trailer end of the plug. Luckily I had a spare to give him. A bit of shrubbery on the track was all it took.
Supercheap do 2 pin 50 amp plugs that lock together like a trailer plug and that is what I would use if I needed to.

The Anderson plug is the standard connector from car to camper/campervan/caravan and has been for a very long time. We use a strip of plate bolted to both plugs to keep them together but really have never had a problem with them regardless. We always fill the cable end with silastic to keep dirt and moisture from getting in that end and use the rubber covers all the time. On the road they always get a regular clean with electrical connector spray and are checked for plate connection as well

For disc braked camper vans you need a separate anderson plug to power that system and the other one is to feed the BMS30 and charge the batteries while travelling

Ron hello. What a wimp! Leaving me to do all the work. We pick ours up on 22 June how about you? We may be in Caloundra around the same time.

I have managed to narrow this down to not so expensive to OMG expensive. Camec have some alloy plugs which look OK and are around 70 per set. We then step up, a long step, to this http://www.mobileenergyaustralia.com.au/products/ez-connector which is actually available as a 14 pin connector at a cost of $300 per set. Nothing in between so far. I know the latter one is expensive but in the greater scheme of things may actually prove the best option. Where we travel tends to destroy trailer plugs but virtue of stoning, drowning and dust all of which kill electrical connections as we know. So amortise $70 over ten years of ownership and you get a different ROI

We just use one of these which clips together and has never fallen out, even up the Cape, or corroded, but we don't have disc brakes so it is a different setup to yours and may not be relevant.

Never believe what you see. It is actually a Q series 3 not 4 to start with and certainly not a Plus. Towed by an LC200 would they fit a Traxide system
