Hi All

Has anyone had their clutch slave cylinder play up? Mine is jamming on (clutch disengaged) then leaking and slowly engaging on its own!. Managable on the Hwy, but pain in the city!. New one turns up tomorow so prob is solved, just wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Cheers

My master cylinder died at around 20,000K's. Bypassing internally.

C'mon Zook,,
surely by number 3 you'd have worked out where the fault is?

I had that happen to my MY99 Defender. A couple of months later I had to drive home without a clutch. Pulled the master and slave cylinders, had them refurbished, and replaced them - all been fine since. Bugger of a job though as you seem to have to dismantle half the dash to get to some of the bolts.

Thing was, there was no sign of a fluid leak but it had obviously gone somewhere and I guess the reason was it was leaking at the slave...

Hmmm... sounds right. I'll monitor it, and if the level drops again call it to their attention at the stealer. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

only three weeks after i replaced the clutch slave the clutch the master fialed in the simpson desert, drove without the clutch for 200km to mt dare. what a pain to remove the master cylinder for the first time, with the engine nice and hot and 3 million flies wanting to help. two hours later it was she was all good again. must get a master and slave rebuild kit to keep in the defender for next time.

I Replaced the master cylinder in my 97 Defender again the other day after not setting up as the workshop manual. Bought replacement one from Burson's for $30.47 for complete new one!!!! Just have to use rod from existing unit. PBR part number is P6575 No more clutch fluid dripping onto my toes. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Hi all

I did have a little weep in the slave, but you were right zook, the master was the main problem. I decided to have some-one else strip their nuckles for replaceing that one. This is my second master replacement of the master.

When I picked up the truck, I asked for the old master back so I could have it re-kitted, I was advised to have it done with a stainless sleave then should have no more problems. Thought I should pass that on to all!! (the mechanic did advise that otherwise the master replacment was something I was going to have to get useto!)

I now have a slave and master to have re-kitted, both with stainless sleaves, will get that done in the future and carry them in the toolbox!

Cheers

I don't know what has changed, but I find with my County that the easy way to do the master cylinder is to simply remove the entire pedal assembly - six bolts with captive nuts, easy to access from inside.

Thats a "cynical" problem as opposed to a "cylindrical" problem?
