I am trying to track down the correct tail lights for my model year 58 (Sep 57) Series one 88 - it has 120421these ones currently but I think they are meant for an early Series 2? Both these are 120420120422are listed as Series 1 tail lights - How can I find out which version I should have, any advice appreciated, Thanks!

Hello from Brisbane.

By 1958 your vehicle would have more than likely had the units shown in your second picture - the earlier models had the "D" lights.

I don't believe any of the Series 1 Land Rovers ever had the lights shown in your first photo as standard fitment.

Cheers,

Neil

My 1956 had ones that from the pictures I have look like the first of the ones you show (second picture, the first picture is, as you suggest, Series 2), but I suspect that 1958 Australian built ones may have had "none of the above".

Hello again.

My mistake.

I actually meant the third picture - commonly called pork pies.

Again the earlier trucks pretty much from the first models had the Lucas "D" lights which are not the ones shown in your second picture.

All of our early trucks on the farm 1950 to 1954 had the D light (copies of) which some specialist outlets in the U.K. can supply. My cousins had a 1958 model and it had the pork pie light (reproductions of) which can also be supplied
by several U.K. suppliers (e.g. John Craddock).

Cheers,

Neil

Hello again.

Check this site:

Classic Dynamo & Regulator Conversions (http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/replica-rear-lamps-shop.php)

The D light is the one shown in the upper RHS.

Note the light in the upper LHS is the same as in the original posts' second photo and is described as a pork pie. That isn't the unit that is normally referred to as the pork pie on late Series 1 Land Rovers - which is the light shown in the third photo of the original post.

Cheers,

Neil

A 57 build series 1 would have had Pork Pie lamps as shown in this listing.

LAND ROVER SERIES 1 PORK PIE LAMP LIGHT NEW | eBay

The very last series 1s - 58 build may have Red Della Beacon lamps but I dont have a pic of them.

Couple of different Pork Pies around as well.

The S1 in my sig has the original pork pies, they are similar, but different from the pic.

I will have to dig out a pic of them.

Thanks all for your responses - it looks like the 'correct tail lights' for my vehicle could either be the Lucas type 518 'pork pie' 120446or the Della Beacon (something like this) 120447 but probably can't get certainty over which one. It seems that reproduction pork pie ones are available (at outrageous prices) but don't seem to be able to find the others. Now just a decision as to whether I am prepared to spend that amount! Thanks again.
