Does an ENGEL MT45 fit in the loadspace of a RRS?

Long time lurker.

I need some forum help! I have been scouring the forum and the web but I can't seem to be able to confirm if an Engel fridge fits in a RRS load area.

I am in the market to buy a circa 2010 D4 or RRS. There are obviously pros and cons to each but 3.0L engines are more common in RRS than D4s but the bigger load space and longer wheelbase make the D4 the preferred option.

One consideration is if my fridge - an Engel MT45 would fit in the RRS, if it didn't then I'd be more inclined to keep looking for the 'right' D4.

I measured a RRS that I inspected and it could be lineball whether it fits or not.

The measurement I have taken from an L320 RRS is that there is (all approx tape measurements) 680mm from the back of the seat to the back of the load-space, and this is at about 460mm off the floor, about the same height as the cargo blind. My Engel is 650mm long and 505mm high making it a very snug if not at all fit.

Do any L320 ownders have fridges fitted with or without slides?

Welcome any advice or pics of setups appreciated.

Next step might be asking a seller if I can trial fit my Engel during inspection!!

My 38 litre Engel fits fine. Taking the handles off should help.
I'll grab the tape measure in the morning if no one's got a definitive response.
Doing the slide thing is tricky cos of the spare wheel winch access - at least with the D4 the gap between the third row seats can be used for getting to the winch but the sports have a false floor that lifts up.
Of course then there's the question of cargo barriers...
There's plenty of nice things about the RRS but having a young family I miss the D4's space more than anything.

my 55 litre and my 25litre both fit at the same time - the load space is plenty big but higher up is reduced because of the sloping rear window.

Yes , it fits .
But .....the load space cover won't close properly .
You should have asked me yesterday - had my car at work in Campbellfield.
So it depends on whether the cover is required - I had a p38 before and the cover could be "made to cover " in the RRS it only creates bad language !
If I can figure out how to get a proper dog Guard / loadspace protecter that will make it a lot easier .

Also so I just strap mine down - next task is to make up tie down points on more practical positions

there is a lot more accessories for the disco - but the RRS are more reasonably priced .

You all know the decisions I'm thinking over - the load space is tiny in the RRS by comparison and the accessories market is better for D4, but as Rextheute says, RRS are better spec for the price. Shame I missed an opportunity to check out a setup car in the flesh! Any pics still welcomed of setups!

Being able to close the loadspace cover isn't a factor, I just measured from around there as that is as close to the top of the back seats, for me loadspace covers usually become dust-catchers in the shed somewhere. Closing the tailgate is the main concern! :-)

I noticed the floor was a one piece panel and have seen the D4 solution of a welded socket/extension solution between the stowed seats for spare lowering. I figured for a RRS just punch a hole in the panel or replace panel with a piece of ply with a hole, or put in a complete floor panel with a hole bolted underneath the factory tie downs with extra tie downs in it for versatility and fridge slide mount (after storing all the stuff in the foam tray somewhere else of course!

Knowing a fridge fitting keeps the RRS in the running for consideration . . .

I have an MT45FCP that fits in the back, no problems. As mentioned the Cargo Screen has to be removed. Fits well on the drivers side, couple of luggage straps hold it reasonably securely in place. Hope this helps,

Hi guys,

I just couldn't come at the RRS due to the small boot space. Geez they're a good looking car though, if it were a pure looks decision it would have been the go but the practicality criteria won out.

Ended up getting a MY10 D4 3.0 SE, you definitely notice it is less equipped on the luxury features but less to go wrong is a good thing yeah? ;-)

It's stock as a rock so I'm looking forward to embarking on a long term progressive upgrade journey.

I took my cover out, fitted a brace up through the centre and then cut a hole in the cover on the R/H side. I took the polystyrene tool "thing" out, under that is already carpeted and then cut a blank for the hole, carpeted that, screwed and glued four wooden supports to sit the blank on, then bought a small utensil tray from Ikea to hold a range of tools etc. If you get the placement of the blank right you can still get access to your wheel winder and not have to take your fridge out.

In the gap formed under the fridge and the remainder of the tool cover I stored an oil filter, air filter, some fuses, small hydraulic jack and some other bits and pieces. I did have some pictures because I have sold that RRS on, sorry I can't find any pictures.
