After 14 years here it is time for a sea change. The house is not the problem. It is the large shed with all that is piled in it. I have just had a monstrous council cleanup and haven't scratched the pile in the shed. Why aren't I a tidy person? Just had the 3rd lot through the house in pouring rain. I think the size of the shed might swing the deal. Off fishing on the south coast. [bigsmile]

OK. We have done it. Five days and it is sold. Now we have nowhere to live [bigsmile][happycry]

We helped our daughter move out of her share house on the weekend. One 6x4 trailer, 2 90's and a 110 plus a 6 wheel perentie. I'm not sure she understands what a rubbish bin is for. 😃

This was all out of one room as well. No idea how she managed to live in it.

I hope you are not planing to down size. We did and you don`t realise the stuff you have until it is all piled into a smaller house. Five lounges in one room was a bit excessive. Best thing we did and can`t recommend it enough. Pay the dollars and get the movers in. All the best for the move.

We do not have a house as yet. Minimum 4 bedrooms plus 2 car garage. Waterfront block with wharf. Wish list

Did it about 18 months ago.
I currently have 1 x 40 foot and 2 x 20 foot shipping containers with all my hoarded stuff, until the new shed goes up.

When we sold up and moved to Whyalla we went from a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom, formal dining, formal lounge, family room and workshop to....

A 2 bedroom Bungalow [emoji12]
Built a workshop..

Downsized the "clutter"

Never been happier [emoji41]

Both parties signed contracts yesterday. Now the buyer is trying to extend the settlement date to 6 months. He knew what it was before he made the offer and signed the contract. I am talking with my solicitor today.

I recommend you divide your stuff into two piles:

1. Stuff I will need in the next week.
2. Everything else.

Pile 2 goes to the tip and pile 1 goes to your new residence. Easy.

We once downsized from a five bedroom house to a 30kg suitcase each and moved overseas. That concentrates the mind.

And how often do you find you need something after you have thrown it out.

Just make sure pile two is small

No, no. Minimalism is the key. We don't 'need' most stuff, we just 'want' it.
For example, you could bomb most aisles in a typical supermarket and most shoppers would be better off not buying that stuff.

If the people were still in the aisle, they wouldn't need the supermarket. [biggrin]

Our daughter is in the process of moving and last week we moved her stuff and stored it in our place for the week. Tonight we moved it into the new place.

When it comes to hard work she's not the most enthusiastic. 😀 So everything's being loaded and she eventually decides to bring something out. So she comes out and says 'I don't remember these being part of the bed.'

She was standing there holding tent poles. 😂😂😂

Interesting thread, we've just moved out of big house, shed etc including the mother in-law and her gear with the mantra "if it doesn't fit in 2 x 20ft containers it isn't coming". Bought a caravan too so there's a bit for in there.
How good does it feel to get rid of all the accumulated crap! I reckon there's still half a container of stuff we don't need.

We have started clearing the clutter for our move in just under 5 years. Cleaned the computer cupboard out and I would have sworn I needed 90% of what was in there - I ended up keeping about 5%. 50% went in the bin and the Salvo's grabbed 45% of it.

If I continue on like that, a 2 bedroom shoebox should be perfect. :)

Yeah, love that show. :)

I'd still need a big arse shed though... ;)

Cook and I have been thinking of doing this for years and keep backing off.... 35 years here with vast ocean views and all we see as possible downsizing places to go to is looking out at someone 20 meters away!
We'd love to capitalise on the increase in price but feel we'll stay here for a few years longer yet. Just moving our daughter out after she moved back in for 18 months was traumatic enough. :-((
Good luck to all those that do the big move.

Move to the country. We are slowly transitioning from Brisbane to Maleny.

See you up here then, not that I'd know you if I tripped over you!
