G'day all,
Thought I may as well see what interest there is for a sill tank for a 90 or a perentie. If you're not familiar with what I'm making please have a look at the other threads. But in a nutshell I've just finished developing a driver's side sill tank for a 130 made from tough rota moulded polyethylene plastic.
The plan is to make both LH and RH sill tanks for the whole defender range in either diesel or water, but as it costs several thousand dollars to make a mould I'm asking for a real show of hands who would actually want to buy one. if I can get at least 20 people willing to pay a $150 deposit I will build the mould. There is lots of interest from the 110 owners but not many have committed, so if there happens to be more 90 or perentie owners willing I'll make them first!
I do appreciate that it's a big ask to pay a deposit for something that hasn't been made yet, but it's the quickest way I can think of to get them happening. I do have the 130 tank finished, there are a heap of photos and video of it and anyone is welcome to come check it out if interested.
For the perentie there are a few options.
Main tank replacement for a 110 sill tank. about 75 litres and you get to have an under drivers seat tool box. If this is you just vote in the 110 poll.
Or a modified 110 sill tank that goes up under the drivers seat, about 90 litres. I'll call this perentie tank replacement.
For LH sill would be easier to re-rout the exhaust and use 110 LH sill tank.
Relocate the spare wheel, and have a "perentie spare wheel tank"
You could also leave the exhaust where it is and put a tank between the LH chassis rail and tail shaft under the centre of the vehicle. "perentie centre tank"
For a 90, simply LH or RH sill tank. Remember they can all be either diesel or water.
So please only vote in the poll if you are willing to put down a deposit.
Price for all tanks will be no more than $800.
I know they are a great product so please get behind me and together we can make some tanks!

how would these suit a ffr with the battery boxs behind the doors

The 110 station- wagon has a slightly different tank. They were almost certainly modified GS tanks but are a bit shorter at the rear upper corner and have a smaller inlet. One of these would work in a 2 door, but not vice versa

Good point, I'd have to have a look. If the battery boxs are in the way the other options would be better.
Cheers, Andrew.

What fittings would be supplied for the rear tank, i.e. pipes, new filler neck etc? and estimated cost to supply? Same for LH Perentie tank cost for additional hardware etc.

Hi, cost for additional hardware all depends on what system is used to rig up the tank. Will it be a transfer set up or a selector valve used? Or just a balance hose? Separate filler or a combination y type filler? There are many options to rig up a tank, and like tyres everyone seems to have a preference.
I haven't had a proper look at a perentie but I'm sure something fairly simple could be rigged up.
I will definitely look at offering a whole kit with all fittings once I get going, but was hoping to sell a few first. If people would sign up for a tank if I offered the fittings I can certainly look at it and work out a price, probably a transfer pump type system.
Cheers, Andrew.

I'm definitely keen for left and right sill tanks for my 90. Do you have a rough idea of the capacity of each tank? I'm assuming these will fit with the factory side-steps.

Haven't had a good look at a 90 yet so not sure on capacity, but I think it should be similar to a 110 because unlike a 110 you don't have outriggers in the way (I think!, please confirm this), so should be around 70 litres.
To achieve good capacity I don't think the factory side steps will fit, but can be easily modified. My rock sliders and others will fit.
Cheers, Andrew.

AFAIK 110 cill tanks will not fit any of the Perentie 4x4's due to the main tank on one side and the exhaust on the other.
Thus the options in the poll.
Desperately in need of extra capacity though!

Thanks Andrew! I will investigate what's around the sill area in the way of structure. It may even tempt me to upgrade my factory side steps to rock sliders.

A sill tank will fit on the drivers side after factory tank is removed. However I think that the fuel filter will be in the way. For a perentie tank replacement I could simply make clearance for the filter. Otherwise just relocate the filter. A tank could be made for the LH side with the exhaust, after all the RFSV has a tank there, just reduced capacity.

Hi Andrew, was good to meet you up at Corowa (I was the one Kyle introduced you to with the 101 parked amongst the Perenties).
Having made a decision to by a 4x4 Perentie, I'm interested, but the vehicle is many months away at the moment, so hard to commit, although if you were 1 short I'd put my hand up for one. Wouldn't be the first time I've had parts for a vehicle I haven't got yet. :D
I haven't voted yet though - I'd be happy with anything that increased the vehicles range, so any option works for me.
Cheers - Gav.

Thanks Gav, that's the sort of commitment were after, buy one without a vehicle! Was a great weekend in Corowa and good to meet you and your nice 101. Must admit I too walked away thinking I want a perentie...
Cheers, Andrew.

Andrew,
Don't get me wrong I really would like you to make a tank for the Perentie and I would definitely buy one when you do.
I just don't want to have to modify the exhaust (for the cill tank) or seat boxes or loose my spare wheel area to do it.
My preference would definitely be the central tank between the frame rails or the modified main tank in the same area.
I think you will find that many of the Perentie main steel tanks leak anyway so the latter would be a good option.
Looking forward to the prototype!!

Thanks Phil, that's why I've given a few options to see what the majority want. I have also been told that the steel tanks are getting old and starting to leak so I agree a tank replacement would be great option, especially with an increase in capacity. And apparently a new steel tank is quite expensive, so a better bigger and cheaper tank is the way to go!

Andrew,
My thoughts exactly.
My main tank leaks. I'm sure it is because they hang low and get bashed, loosening the bash plate.
Ideally an increased capacity main tank possibly incorporating a separate sill tank on the drivers side (not sure what is possible but total 100 lt + would be ideal) and a water tank (60 lt ?) in the middle of the frame rails would be the way to go IMO but we all have different opinions.
Mine and many of the 4x4 have added turbo's and thus need larger exhausts. I don't really want to change the exhaust again (2.5" complete exhaust is+-$1000). That's on the passenger side inside the sill.
Thanks and good luck.

You seem to have left out a large section of your potential market.
The 100"ers. Discovery 1, Discovery 2, RRC and me.
I need bigger tanks.

Take a ticket and wait in line! Of course if the numbers stack up I'll make them. This could be a good way to spur on the defender owners to sign up, have the disco and RRC crew in competition, whoever gets the numbers first wins!
Cheers, Andrew.
