What i would expect to be an important thread .

5396 views

244 posts

Under 20 posters with a post count below 1000 ( some multiple )

224 with a post count above 1000 ( some multiple )

102 votes in the pole .

If you have an interest how would you decipher the above figures in relation to the Forum .

If you think they mean nothing , please say that .

I think this "post" would have been better served by posting it in the original thread.

What are you hoping to achieve by this?

I purposely kept it out of the other thread because it is to do with the thread and not the topic of the other thread .

I`m interested to see what people views are on why as i see it people with lower post counts tend not to contribute .

Why so many viewed and not contributed .

Why if over 5000 views only just over 100 votes .

It seems to me the figures should be saying something and i don`t understand what exactly and would be interested in the views of others .

Do you think the figures relate something ?

Do you think there is a problem with how this thread is arranged ?

Those figuures mean very little. For starters, how many different people 'viewed' the thread and howmany went back several times?
I've 'viewed' several times, I doesn't make me several people......:whistling:

I believe that many will have had a look, accepted it is what it is, and moved on without comment.

The poll is invisible to Tapatalk users so many won't partake.

And to a Tapatalk user the interface hasn't changed at all.

I only logged on via a browser the other day, noticed it was different, had a look around, made a few posts and logged out. In my workspace change is constant so didn't think anything of it (noticed it's faster and more info on the page though).

I don't believe any real conclusions can be drawn from the data. I'm here for the info and some socialising, the format is irrelevant.

Cheers

If they dont like it move on which they wont[bigwhistle]
We as humans hate change and we have to learn to accept it or stall[happycry]

Thanks , are you sure that is the case ?

I just viewed this thread , opened and closed 11 times and the figure remained 11 .

Tombie made a reply which requires viewing and the number stayed 11 he had a previous view because he had made a reply .

I may well be wrong but i thought the system noted who viewed but i know little of how things work .

As I said, many do the Aussie thing..
Open, Quick look, "Wotever", Move on...

I pretty much only use Tapatalk, so the poll doesn't work for me, and as Tombie said, I haven't really noticed a difference besides the "like" function now, which I think is kinda cool.

Thanks for your replies ,

I may not be very clear in what i`m looking for and i think others should also have an interest .

The thread i`ve chosen and looked at the numbers i don`t consider a run of the mill thread but one of most importance .

It is not the format of the forum that is any concern in this thread .

It is the people that use the forum and why so many look and don`t contribute .

The numbers quoted above relate to people .

Again it is not about the format of the forum .

I think you may be missing the point Peter, whilst this thread is not directly to do with the 'new look', the numbers to which you refer are directly linked to that discussion, people who don't see a difference in the forum set up / layout because they are using a mobile device might have opened the thread, not been able to see the poll and therefore not contributed,

hence the high views / low post ratio?

And plenty of us contribute. Both by posting advice and by financial means.

I've held fund raisers and donated the funding back in the day.. and both Mrs Tombie and I pay top level subscriptions.. to which she has made all of about 5 posts!

And you know what... I let Inc run the site as he sees fit... changes and all.... and if he wanted to shut it down I'd support that too...

It's Incs brain child, his BS&T and he can do whatever he likes to it....

I'm just glad he continues to do so, and massages and coerces it almost daily to keep it moving along..

I would have thought it was that most people go looking for information - be it here about Land Rovers and other sites about other stuff. I rarely if ever post on a lot of forums I look through - mostly pass through after looking for information.

I would think that holds true for most and a lot that come here and look just move on after having a read.

I could accept that if you saw the heading of the thread and were not inquisitive enough to wonder what it was about , i would presume the wording would be the same the layout as you say wouldn`t matter .

Another problem i would have is that it would mean that less than 2% are using non mobile devices

or greater than 98% are using mobile devices .

This could well be true , i have no way of knowing but it seems rather one sided to me .

The %s come from just over 100 votes and just under 5400 views .

yes , i understand that in general but the thread which the numbers came from is not an information type of thing , i would have

said it was a forum thing and would expect the majority of views would be from financial members .

I have no way of knowing that but in the Tech type threads i think you would be right .

Just playing with stats?

Thanks ,

i use the numbers to try to explain so`s someone can explain to me what is going on , to me things don`t seem right when a thread that is about the forum seems to gain little interest , given the number of views amount of members etc .

I would like to know why newer and older members seem to have trouble putting their views forward long term or at all , there must be a reason people are not comfortable posting and if it can be discussed and rectified that would be to the better in my opinion .

Future health should be discussed if there is a problem , it is possible that i`m the only one that thinks it , i`ve seen the place change over the last couple of years , it could be the way is to sit back and watch and it may improve or try to have healthy discussion about how it can be bettered .

I`m not talking about the format the way it`s run ETC , i`m not having a go at anyone , though it would be better to have a positive view .

It is more about the members and what they do and how they interact .

Although i have no answers i would have liked to have asked questions a couple of years ago but after what has happened recently i think that it could be a dangerous time for the forum .

This is only my opinion , nobody has to agree with it nobody has to see it , sometimes things need to be pointed out to become obvious or maybe give a reason to look .

Hope that explains it a bit better but i`m thinking it will only complicate things .

Thanks ,

Could you tell me or find out for me ?

I can change my computer screen to mobile style by using the box on the lower left of the screen .

Do the mobile users have the same three options that i see when using Mobile Style on my computer , mid bottom of my screen , one being "Full Site " ?

If so would this allow users of mobile devices to see polls , if they chose to or does this not work in the same way ?

I only use desk/laptop computers so can`t see for myself.

But the majority aren't financial members in this or any other forum, so guests and non financial members will always make up the majority on any forum.

If you know how to get more people to subscribe, I'm sure Inc would love to hear from you, but in reality they make up a very small percentage of overall views on any site.

I had a quick look at this, and have just read it thru and it makes no sense.. Why are u worried about numbers, whats the deal with your curiosity? Spit out what you are actually thinkin! The one thread that surprises me how far its grown is "Big Storm and no power in SA..". That's a thread that has far exceeded my expectations, and would be worthy of your efforts.

Stats be stats. Just do what the journalistic community does and make up random / ridiculous claims that can be supported by these stats. Advertisers do it all the time. As for the poll participation in anything non-compulsary is generally low. That's why we have compulsory voting in Oz.

Thanks ,

i guess i see things that are not of concern to most .

Not really surprised but as it seems from what has been said , most use mobile devices they would not see the overall in the same way but as i don`t use mobile i don`t know what it looks like , though as said earlier i can use mobile style on the computer but as also said earlier i don`t know if they are similar .

An inkling of like thinking could make persistence an option but as i see very little to none , i`ll leave it here .

Some may now be aware of a poll that could be contributed to if they chose to , it has 104 votes at present and ends in 2 days the 27th .

I understand that because it uses numbers some will have a problem with that but try to overcome it

For me the important stat is the stat that tells me how many registered users visit at least once a month and the page view stats

Active participation on forums is usually around 10% generally speaking

AULRO'S rate is generally over 20% and is still climbing

Members 20,616
Active Members 5,238

Facebook and Google+ have impacted those rates on most fora but for some reason not so much here...
