Less busy park and Ride North Brisbane

Helllo All Northside of Brisbane members,

I will be coming down to Brisbane for a routine appointment with my eye specialist. The appointment is set for 1:15 pm Thursday. Yep the day before Easter School holidays start.

I will be over-nighting with my son in Yarrabilba then heading back to Bundaberg Thursday.

I want to be able to head north and be able to just duck off the arterial road - then pull into a Park and Ride - one that actually might have some empty spaces. Then I can catch the train into Central for a 1:15 pm appointment.

I wish to avoid driving in the inner city like the plague.

Last time I tried a similar stop was at Northgate and there were no car parks anywhere around from 10:00 am. It looked good on Google Map because it was not too far off the Gateway arterial road.

For the trip home, I would like to be able have the appointment - get off the train and get back onto the Gateway without too much drama.

Can someone with some local knowledge advise me of a better Park & Ride say around 10:00 am to 11:30 for a car park.

Then I can just tootle off from the appointment and without too much fuss try and beat the school holiday traffic since there are bound to be people who decide to take Thursday off so they can head north too.

our assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you were able to get to nundah by 645 am you could have my spot . Only a two minute walk to the station. Or if in a small car I could put it in the garage

Freeway north will be bumper to bumper at 3pm on Good Friday eve.

Bald hills is just off the freeway, and you can usually get a legal park in the street if not the carpark, might be a 100 m walk

Here's some lateral thinking. Park the car at Landsborough on the Sunshine Coast. Work the schedule for a fast train right into the city. Do the same in reverse when leaving.
You will completely avoid the peak hour traffic nightmare 3-6 pm. Plus there is plenty of parking.
We have done this several times. Better moving on a train than stuck in gridlock on a motorway. Just study the schedule carefully.

Drive from Yarabillba. Park in Booval in Ipswich - where I used to live, so I know the parking spots and then train in to Roma Street - walk to the appointment. Sit down in the chair for about 15 minutes... Then catch the train back from Roma Street get off at Booval. Then drive through Ipswich and cut in through Fernvale past Wivenhoe and head to Bundaberg via Yarraman, Goomeri and Ban Ban Springs. Therefore avoiding the Bruce Highway like the plague.

There's many more trains to & from Caboolture. The car park is pretty big too. Don't leave any valuables in view and it'll be ok.
The highway frees up ok from Caboolture to the north.
DiscoMicks suggested Landsborough parking is also a good suggestion.
I drove or caught the train from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane for the last 10 years.

I am doing other stuff in the big smoke for a couple days before hand - then heading down to stay with my son. I was lucky enough to be able to graft the appointment on to the return leg.

I have caught the tilt train in Bundaberg at 5:00 am arrived in Brisbane around 10-ish - looked around the mall for a couple of hours. Had the appointment - 15 minutes - and then caught the 5:00 pm Tilt Train back home on the same day. It did not work out that way for this trip though.

There used to be a old second hand - rare book shop just opposite Roma Street Station and I used to kill a couple of hours there before catching the train home. The bloke who owned and ran the shop was well over 60 years of age. Last time I did the train trip the book store was closed and very empty - it was pretty sad. I reckon they probably carried the owner out in a box.

Traffic aside.....pick a bus stop and park in bracken ridge, hop on the 330 bus to Roma street

Catch the express from Gympie instead of going to Yarabilba or Caboolture if you still want to visit. That's if it's still running after the changes.
The Gateway is a mess just about any day in the afternoon from Nudgee to the Pine River bridge.

I catch the train from Shorncliffe or Kippa Ring, and I'd recommend either the Landsborough or Booval option. Traffic can be a nightmare all the way up to the Caloundra turnoff sometimes.
