All terrain for Defender - no Bf's what about Falken?

Hi All,

So yesterday I popped my front right at 100km/h on the Hume 60k our from Sydney. All is well, beside some damage to the wheel arch \ bud guard...

I phoned up and I can't get any BF's in a 235/85 R16, the guy recommended the Falken WILDPEAK A/T3W.

If not BF's or Falken what is my pecking order....

1.) BF's
2.) Coopers
3.)
4.)
5.)
6.)

This is what the front left looked like. I was just telling the wife... mmm the muddies are just over 5 years old, and that's suppose to be the recommended life span for a tyre....

Managed to get 4 x 235/85 16 bf's KO2's @ $260 a tyre!

Wondering what's changed with the Coopers? We had a brilliant run out of the ATRs a few years ago, and the SIL won't run anything else - he used to be a tyre fitter before he met the daughter, and got a real job (mind you, he drives a Landcruiser, so his opinions are still a bit suspect!)

You sure you cannot get BFG's in 235/85/16?

your muds have lasted five years therefore I assume you don't rack up too many km per year??

I went pirelli MT based on cost while I'm building the current defender..they actually seem to be going alright after 10 000km

You can, you might be thinking the 255/85R16 KO2, which aren't available

Hi Mike.

I know we've had this discussion a few years ago, but how is it that Mickey T's come out of a Cooper factory and yet don't appear to have the issues that some Cooper tyres do ?

I have to admit the ST's I used on the ex's Patrol ten or so years ago worked well.
I was pleasantly surprised at their performance in black soil where they shouldn't have worked at all, and actually had higher grip levels on bitumen (wet and dry) than the BFG AT's that replaced them.
We didn't lose any tread blocks, which was a pretty common problem in rocks, but they did develop micro cracking of the sidewalls, which was pretty disconcerting.

Coopers purchased Mickey Thompson.
They own the factory however the brand was run as an independent entity.

Even the MT boys would slag the others!!

Different people and different plants - same umbrella.
