G'Day guys,
I have a P38 for which I need to source a replacement second-hand Thor/Bosch 4.0lt v8.
There seem to be a few DII's around the wreckers that have good candidates for replacement engines. Low k's. Clean. Original. No obvious signs of overheating. But before I go handing over the cash I need to know if there are any differences in the Thor 4.0lt v8's in the DII's as opposed to the P38's.
Sump? Oil Pump cover? Compression ratio? I've searched high and low and couldn't find any info. Maybe they're a straight swap.
Are there any differences that I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

I think they are the same, and anyway you can change sumps etc.
The very last of the D2s had high compression engines while all P38s were low compression AFAIK.

for some reason,my 2002 D2 had a high compression engine in it.
i'm not sure why.

AFAIK all the D2's were identical.
the only way to increase the compression is thru normal engineering and aftermarket parts.

AFAIK all the D2's were identical.
That's odd because the VIN # on my 2004 truck tells me the High compression 4ltr V8 is fitted .

G`day ,
2001 and 2002 RR p38As have a higher ratio stamped on the block than 1999 or 2000 all of which are Thor .
Same with the later D2s and earlier D2 though i don`t know the years for them .
The blocks , heads , inlet-manifolds , water pumps , starters are the same , there may be a difference in the ways of the torque converter ETC , i don`t know about the D2 but if you use what the P38A has there would be no problem , it will all bolt on . If the D2 is manual you may need to remove the bearing/bush in that end of the crankshaft .
You would use the RR engine mounts and D2 has different pipe work and thermostat .
As said anything that needs to be swapped from one to the other will just swap .

I have absolutely NO idea I am just going off the VIN #, I bought the truck second hand and have No idea of its prior history other than it was stock standard when I bought it.
Edit.
I just dug up the licence paperwork, The Engine # is 56D65785A, Is this the High compression engine or the Low compression unit ?

G day , when your looking , engine numbers stamped on the block , near where the dipstick is , that start with ..........
56D is the HC found from 2001 model D2s if the car is there the 10th vin digit will be a 1
55D is the LC found to 2000 model D2s , if the car is there the 10th vin digit will be a y
These Vin numbers ......for D2
SALLTGM13YA ?????? the 8th is a 1 , this says LC , the 10th is Y this says 2000 year/model
SALLTGM2A2A?????? the 8th is a 2 , this says HC , the 10th is 2 this says 2002 year/model
trout1105s picture show the 8th is 2 HC and the 10th is 4 = 2004 Y/M
