Ikeep getting this fault code on my 01 D2 TD5 when I check with the Nanacom.

04-01 Inlet air temperature circuit
CURRENT

I keep clearing it but it keeps returning when I check.

where should I start to look to fix the issue?

Set nanocom to inputs fuelling and read the inlet air temperature live data at idle immediately after cold start in the morning, it should be very close to the outside temp then and grow as the engine warms up... if it's not like that replace the MAP/IAT sensor(the one in the inlet maniforld generally named only MAP but it's 2 in 1) and pray to not be a wiring issue in the harness

So to confirm the sensor is definitely the "Maf' straight after the air filter box?

No, not MAF, it's MAP in the inlet manifold, you have to remove the engine cover to see it close to the oil dipstick, if you still have EGR it can be full of gunk but that usually doesnt trigger a circuit fault code

Just googled it. All good.

sensor inthe inlet manifold.

Will pull and clean it. Most likely the cause of my high fuel consumption as well.

I will ill take a photo of it before and after.

Any other sensors I should clean as wll apart from MAF that would affect fuel economy?

I insist that it's quite unlikely to get a circuit fault code only due to dirty sensor, and if it's fubar'd it affect consumtion too so after you cleaned it better watch the inputs fuelling.

Before and after shots of the MAP/IAT

A lot of gunk[bigsad]

Fired up Chaffy and ran him up to temp.

Air inlet temp on Nanacom slowly rose from 31.2 (I am in Darwin in the afternoon) to a max of 44 sitting in the driveway whilst idling up. Temp did fluctuate a lot whilst revving and idling from negative through to a peak 119.9.

Once up to proper coolant temp it was holding 119.9.

checked the faults and had the same one come up. I have cleared it again but it keeps coming back. Is my sensor stuffed. Is this normal?

Will see how the economy goes over the next week. Hopefully a lot better now the sensor is clean and will check the faults. Will report back.

Don't wait anymore, those readings are indubitable confirmation of failed IAT side of MAP/IAT sensor signal, normal readings should be between 10 to 30* higher than the outside temp with warm engine according to various factors.... buy a new one ASAP

Big thanks to Mario and Heather, I have installed my new sensor today, cleared the code. Hopefully now my economy will improve.

driving back to KTOWN on Monday, will see how Chaffy behaves and how thirsty he is. Will report results back.
