RIP John....if it weren't for ya gumboots...where would ya be?.......

One of New Zealand and Australia's most well-known satirists, John Clarke - the man who created comic character Fred Dagg - has died at the age of 68.
A spokesman for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, for whom Clarke worked, confirmed that he died on Sunday of natural causes, while hiking in the Grampians National Park in Victoria.
Clarke was best known for creating the laconic farmer Fred Dagg, but also enjoyed success as an author, actor, editor and screenwriter.

Sad news indeed. I've been amused by John's antics since his Dagg years. A truly great and adaptable talent.

A great loss, despite his deadpan delivery, the slight twinkle in his eye showed he was laughing on the inside as much as we were on the outside

He was a master wordsmith who pared everything down to the essentials, which is rare nowadays.

Can't forget listening to Fred Dag as a kid.

Now we've lost the only decent couple of minutes of TV for the week!

A very funny man and one of a kind. I can't see anyone ever coming close to replicating this mans humor.

His wit and voice are unique.

A sad day

RIP John
