runnung 240/12v PVR on 12v Battery

Gday , I have a Topfield PVR that runs via a 240/12v power plug into a 12v dc input on back of recorder , does anyone know if i can safely run it off the 12v battery supply in my caravan without compremising the PVR , the PVR did not come with a 12v cig type lead so not sure if i can run on battery or needs a stable 12v supply from the 240/12v power jack .
A lot of stuff works this way now 240/12v/19v input !! .

Hi Fatso and if your PVR has a dedicated 12v input, then it will actually be safer to run it off a battery than a power supply.

In fact, if you want a stable supply when running off a 240vac to 12v power supply ( which is normally 13.8v ) connect the power supply to the battery and run your PVR off the battery.

The battery will act as a huge filter and give you a much much smoother voltage to you PVR.

One word of warning, if you have a generator, DO NOT use the 12v output to power you PVR, even with a battery connected. The 12v output of most generators is usually a very "DIRTY" power supply.

Thanks mate, was not sure as its my house pvr , can load it up with a load of tv shows for camping .
Could not really see why i could not do it as 12v is 12v but thought it might need some sort of regulated 12v voltage , so gave it a run this arvo plugged it the 12v hole and works as the same as when plugged into 240v stepped down to 12v . Fills in when its a pain trying get tv in some locations.
