I've recently installed a Codan HF to the Disco and am looking for better earthing points. At the moment I've got the rear mounted antenna and transceiver earthed to the lower rear door hinge.
Any easy to access earth points that would be better?
Thanks

Hi Disco123, i don’t know the specs for that specific HF but if the unit draws more that 2 or 3 amps then you are far better off running a separate earth wire all the way back to the battery.
This way you are guarantied to have the correct power supply.

Thanks drivesafe. I've got the power lead and earth back to the aux battery with 6mil lead, so I'm happy with that connection but I'm also supposed to have the transceiver and autotune antenna earthed separately.
I'll have a play and see if I can get it directly through to the chassis somehow.

Hi Disco123, I know what you mean now and as this relates to reducing interference, all you have to do is connect an earth to the body or any where you can get a metal surface.
There is no load considerations so you should be able to earth the radio anywhere but with the arial there is a ground plain to get right and someone else with some radio background will be better to advise you than I can.

Thanks again drivesafe. I thought I was having trouble with the earth so tonight I tried a battery jumper cable clipped from the antenna earth braid direct to the chassis and there was no improvement to the transmission.
Methinks there is a problem with the autotune antenna, not the earth https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Sounds like a trip to the tech tomorrow.
